The railway tracks are extremely sensitive to the stability of the layers of land they're built upon. The associated risk to this latent instability is mainly due to the meteorological phenomena which its surrounding are subjected to. One can see, though, that the main cause for land instability is the rainfall phenomenon and, thus, water infiltration. that is reason why it becomes essential that risk management and control systems are created, when It comes to slide slope. In this case, sliding is a consequence of the wet forefront headway, which leads to rising in water pressure in the pores. This very phenomenon will result in a reduction in suction which brings uncohesion.in some cases, one can also find a rise in the freatic level also leading to instability due to the increased pressure. Depending on the soils water holding capacity, on the hydraulic conductivity of the slope's geotechnical profile and on the local rainfall conditionsdefined by parameters related to the IDF Curvesgliding can occur suddenly or days after rainfall termination, which often happens. This project's main purpose is to study at which extent soil stability is affected by rainfall phenomena, according to according to cohesion reduction. On the course of this study, a case study has been modeled: the main goal is to assess the behavior of a slope, situated among a Portuguese railway track (Northern line),when subjected to different rainfall patterns. This modulation process will be done using a transitorily analysis (SEEP/W). This process will allow one to evaluate the evolution in the wet forefront during rainfall and until 5 days after its terminus. This evaluation, later linked to a limit analysis (SLOPE/W), which will enable a better understanding about the safety factor evolution.
