Type III error in research on interpersonal models of depression (original) (raw)
Journal of Abnormal Psychology, 1985
Abstract
ABSTRACT Several theories propose that depression is best conceived as an interactional process involving the depressed person and that person's family and friends. In contrast, laboratory studies designed to test these models have examined strangers' reactions to depressives and therefore have little relevance to the models. We argue that relevant empirical research is necessary before theoretical conjectures and treatment strategies based on an interactional model are accepted.
