The Moderating Effect of Situational Control of Performance Variance on the Relationship Between Individual Differences and Performance (original) (raw)

The present study investigated the existence of a moderating effect for situational control of performance variance on the relationship between individual differences and performance. An experimental simulation was conducted and validity coefficients were calculated. Results supported the presence of the predicted moderating effect. The implications of these data for validation research and testing programs are discussed. RESEARCHERS in the personnel area have long been interested in predicting job performance based on measures of individual differences (i.e., validation research). In pursuit of this goal, differences among persons with respect to stable, task-relevant attributes brought to work settings (ability, experience) have been assessed and related to measures of job performance. While research efforts of this sort often indicate the existence of significant validities for measures of individual differences, relevant literature reviews have ' This research was supported by AFOSR Grant No.
