During the last three years, traffic accidents in Mataram City- Lombok have increased significantly. Interestingly, most of the accidents were involved high school motorcyclist. This study aims to investigate the influence of age and gender of student motorcycle riders on traffic violations and accidents, which represents a city with moderate growth. The investigation was conducted using a questionnaire survey, in which the data were collected from 394 students covering eighteen high schools. The model developed consists of behavioral, violation and accident latent variables. Behavioral constructs are comprised of five observed variables, the violation constructs consist of three observed variables, and accident constructs have two observed variables. It was found that 51.53% from 87.5% of the student’s motorcycle riders did not have the proper riding license, whom has age under 17 years old and had been involved in traffic accidents. The Perception of Domestic Tourists Riding Motorcycle in Bali on Traffic Safety

This study aims to model and analyse the perceptions of domestic tourists riding motorcycle on traffic safety using Bali Province in Indonesia as the case study area. Structural Equation Model was constructed to examine the causal relationship among the motorcyclists' characteristics, perceptions and attitudes. Young domestic tourist riding motorcycle were found to be less likely to involve in cornering and speeding than the older ones. In addition, the level of education has been found insignificant to influence domestic tourists becoming more aware of motorcycle traffic safety. Meanwhile, motorcyclists scoring high on aggressive riding are considered to be more likely to interact with risky riding such as speeding and cornering. In addition, speeding has been considered as a significant contributing factor in traffic accidents and casualties. In a response this study finding, further studies and some initiatives are suggested to increase road safety particularly motorcycle traffic safety in Bali.
Factors Influencing Risky Driving Behavior in Young Motorcyclists at Bandung City, Indonesia

Risky driving behaviour is one of the causes of road accidents, especially in adolescents. This study is aimed to get factors causing risky driving in teenage drivers in the city of Bandung, based on the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB). The method of this study is descriptive. The population of this study are motorcyclists who are classified as adolescents, have been ticketed for at least 6 months from the data was taken, and have lived in the city of Bandung, at least for 1 (one) year. The sampling technique used is random sampling. By using the instrument to measure intention of behaviour, we collected data from 135 respondents. The finding of this research those are among the three determinants of intention to drive in risk, attitude toward behaviour (ATB) is the most influencing factor for the behaviour. It was followed by Perceived Behavioural Control (PBC) factor that has influenced 22,1%, and interestingly the Subjective Norm (SN) only gave 4,8% as an influencing factor to the risky driving behaviour. By believing that behaviour will have positive consequences, the attitude towards risky driving behaviour becomes positive. The limitations of the study are discussed.

Segregated road lanes for motorcyclists are one of the practices implemented by the Malaysian authority to decrease the number of road crashes involving motorcycles. In this study, the motorcycle lanes are divided into three types, exclusive, inclusive, and paved shoulder. This study examined the correlations between motorcyclists' psychological factors and their risky riding behaviors (speeding and neglecting to wear helmet), depending on self-reported usage of different types of motorcycle facilities. The psychological factors discussed in this study were: attitude, desire, perceived behavior control, moral obligation, perceived danger, fear of being caught, and perception of others' behaviors toward the risky behaviors. Quantitative analyses, including Structural Equation Modeling, were used as the analytical tools. The results demonstrated the statistically significant relationship of exclusive road lanes' usage on speeding behavior. However, no statistically significant correlation was found for segregated lanes' usage on helmet wearing behavior. Psychological factors were found affecting the motorcyclists' likelihood of performing the risky behaviors. However, these factors influence speeding and helmet wearing behavior differently. The study offers recommendations and theoretical contributions to explain the complex relationships among the uses of segregated lanes, riders' psychological factors, and their risky behaviors.
Initial Development of Indonesian Motorcycle Rider Behaviour Questionnaire
The use of motorcycle in Jakarta increased rapidly in the last ten years. This is due to lack of sufficient public transport services. The public tried to overcome the congestion problem individually by using motorcycle. Among the daily users of motorcycles were university students. This paper dicusses the development of motorcyclist behaviour questionnaire in Indonesian context. Interviews were conducted to 100 male motorcyclists and 50 female motorcyclists. All respondents were Tarumanagara University students in Jakarta. The questionnaire consists of 31 statements reflecting motorcylist behaviour. The statements were the result of of focus group discussion among researchcers in this topic. Respondents were asked to rate whether they strongly agree (1), agree (2), disagree (3) or strongly disagree (4) to each statement. The collected data were analyzed using exploratory factor analysis (EFA).

Safety Riding Behavior among Students in Bekasi, Indonesia

The purpose of the research is to determine and analyze the safety riding behavior among students of two Public Senior High Schools (SMAN), which are SMAN 6 and SMAN 8 in Bekasi, Indonesia. The reason why the research was conducted was that the high number of road traffic accidents in Bekasi. Another problem was unsafe riding behaviors committed by students while riding a bike. Human errors had to be the dominant factor leading to road traffic accidents since people were lack of awareness about safe riding behaviors. The research was conducted at SMAN 6 and SMAN 8 Bekasi, using a quantitative approach and employing factor analysis with 179 students as a sample. The data was collected by distributing statement letters with a tested Likert Scale model. The result shows that there is a correlation between students' awareness and safety riding behavior; there is a correlation between students' attitude and safety riding behavior; there is a correlation between students' perception between safety riding behavior; there is a correlation between the role of students' peers and safety riding behavior, and there is no correlation between participating on training and safety riding behavior.

Questionnaire and Driver Behaviour Questionnaire were conducted among the same drivers population. Items of questionnaires were used to develop a structural equation model with two factors, one for the motorcyclist's behaviour, and the other for the car driver's behaviour. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were also applied in this study. Results revealed a certain difference in driving behaviour. The principal reason lies probably in mental consciousness that the risk-taking driving of a motorbike can result in much more catastrophic consequences than when driving a car. The drivers also pointed out this kind of thinking and the developed model has statistically confirmed the behavioural differences. The implications of these findings are also argued in relation to the validation of the appropriateness of the existing traffic regulations.

The relationship between risky riding behavior and traffic accidents has been identified in previous research. However, there is limited research that focuses on the interaction between internal and external factors and the effect this has on riders’ risky riding decisions. The aim of this study is to examine the effect of hazardous situations and gender on risk perception and risky riding behavior among motorcyclists. We focus on lane-splitting behavior as one of the most common risky riding behaviors among motorcyclists in Jakarta. A 2×2 mixed-groups factorial ANOVA (hazardous situation × gender) was conducted with 72 participant riders, male as well as female. Road traffic accidents have been reported to contribute a greater proportion of deaths. Motorcyclists are among the high-risk group within road users to succumb to road traffic accidents. Road traffic accidents reflect the co-occurrence of multiple causes that involve road infrastructure, vehicle, and people. Understanding the level of compliance with road safety measures and their associated factors among commercial motorcyclists is important approach in the steps towards road traffic accident prevention. Study design: A cross-sectional study of commercial motorcyclists from two districts in Dodoma region was conducted in 2020. Methods: Multistage sampling method was used to recruit motorcyclists from registered parking stations. At first stage, purposive sampling was used to select the two districts, while in the second stage simple random sampling by lottery method was employed in the selection of wards and parking stations. Descriptive and Chi-square test analyses determined the compliance level. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to determine the associated factors. Results: A total of 378 male commercial motorcyclists participated in the study. Majority (87.8%) were within the age range of 18-29 years. A significant proportion of participants (61.9%) had adequate knowledge and 59.5% showed positive attitude towards road safety measures. Only 39.7% reported to have good level of compliance with road safety measures. Married motorcyclists and those with good road safety practice regarding road safety measures were more likely to comply with road safety measures than their counterpart. Conclusion: Good road safety practices and marital status were predictors of good compliance with road safety measures. Coordinated approaches, including continuing provision of road safety education and enforcement of road safety measures are needed to control the way motorcyclist behave on the road.
