Language and Society. Research Advances in Social Sciences International Conference of RC25 ISA, 2019
The conference aims to foster discussion among sociologists, sociolinguists, and other social scientists about the relations between language and society. This edition of the Language and Society. Research Advances in Social Sciences international conference covers two main scopes. The first scope is related to gender and children equality in liberal and conservative discourses. The purpose is to shed light on how these discourses inform about the preferences, the behaviors, and the representations toward: gender positions and what is expected or not of these positions; children/parental positions; gendered children. This scope includes both the support and the resistance towards children's expected positions interlinked to their gender. The second scope is based on RC25 core approach: looking at language rather than solely through language. All communications which look at language in this sense are welcome, as all theoretical and methodological frameworks that can be used to create sociological analyses of language. For instance, a non-exhaustive list of potential topics for this second scope is: • Language and power • Language in public and private spheres • Multilingualism and plurilingualism • Language and transnationalism • Language and migration • Language and global network • Language and identity • Language and intersectional positioning in public and private sphere • Language policies • To enhance knowledge dissemination beyond linguistic borders, scholars are welcome to present the literature they are using and which is not available in English. English is the official communication language for the conference. However, scholars are welcome to show their visual presentation in another language (French or Spanish are the official languages of ISA). RC 25 Language & Society is a research committee of the International Sociological Association. The objective of the Research Committee on Language and Society is to advance sociological knowledge concerning language in interaction and in systems of representation. Members are united by the desire to look at rather than through systems of communication.

Human societies contain elements which favor persistence in cultural and linguistic behavior - especially intra-generationally- and elements which favor change -more likely to evolve inter-generationally. Which elements help us to understand the dynamics of processes and to carry out sociolinguistic planning in order to ensure, for example, maximum use of a language in recession both in institutionalized and individualized communications? At least three important, complementary aspects should be considered. here: persistence, resistance and change itself. Human behavior shows a tendency towards functional persistence. The subconscious is responsible for a large part of human behavior, and so once a certain behavior has shown its efficiency and functionality in everyday life it becomes routine and occurs without the subject being aware of it, until a new behavior becomes the norm. Many norms in language behavior have this characteristic, which may explain the sociological observation that many types of behavior persist even though the conditions which led to such behavior disappear. The concept which perhaps most adequately explains this phenomenon is that of habitus, from Pierre Bourdieu.
-DEFINING SOCIO CHARACTERIZATION OF LANGUAGE: WHAT LANGUAGE REALLY IS!
Anglisticum Journal (IJLLIS), 2021
Language has been defined from phonology, morphology and syntactic aspect. But this short communique explores to defend the sociological aspect (communicative aspect) of a language. 'Language as a means of communication' superimposes over any other definition if it can be believed two people can draw a language to exist along with other prominent languages and a language is dead when no speaker exists. However, this precise article tends to show minutely what the position of a language is if one knows this language but does not have a second one to interact with that person. Here, the bottom line is that the man cannot utilize this language to serve his communicative purpose. Hence, his language does not serve the purpose of communication. Therefore, the placement of that language is to the category of dying language in which only one person is left for that language to be characterized as a dead language.

Whether they know it or not, everyone is interested in sociolinguistics. Comments such as "People from Philadelphia talk funny," "I didn't understand the point of that story," or "How was I supposed to know you were kidding?" are the kind of casual remarks that come up in day-to-day conversation, but behind each of them is an implicit theory about the way language and culture are connected -that a way of talking is connected with a geographical location, for example, or that a good story should have an identifiable "point." As participants in the social world, each of us does this kind of theorizing all day, every day, but social scientists have developed philosophies and methodologies that allow us to conduct more principled investigations into questions such as "What does it mean when people from a given social group use a certain pronunciation?" "What counts as a 'good' story in this social setting?" and "What kind of cues do people give to signal that they're not intending to be taken literally?"
