Effect of Socio-Economic Status and Gender on Life Satisfaction of Old-age People living in old age home (original) (raw)

In the present 180 old people living in old age home (90 male 90 female) of Meerut city were examined in terms of satisfaction with their life under the influence of socioeconomic status and gender orientation. For this purpose on the basis of scores on socioeconomic status two groups of low and high socioeconomic status were formed. Data regarding life satisfaction was collected from the participants by administering the life satisfaction scale of Alam & Dr. Ramji Srivastava. By calculating the t-test value for the difference between male and female participants and low and high socioeconomic status participants, significance was estimated with regard to life satisfaction. Results showed that female participants have significantly greater life satisfaction than male participants. Old-age people with high socioeconomic status also were found to shoe greater life satisfaction in comparison of those with low socioeconomic status.
