Life satisfaction of Elderly people in urban and semi-urban region of Lucknow (U.P)

The present study was conducted to assess the differences in overall life satisfaction and specific domains of life satisfaction in elderly of urban and semi urban dwellings. The study is based upon sample of 400 elderly (200 urban samples and 200 semi urban samples) of age range 60 years and above 60 years. Life Satisfaction Index for the Third Age-Short Form (LSITA-SF) revised form of Life satisfaction questionnaire developed and standardized by Neogarten (1961)was modified and standardised for Indian elderly for measuring over all life satisfaction and life satisfaction scale developed and standardized by the researcher was used for measuring life satisfaction for specific domains of life satisfaction (health satisfaction, family satisfaction, financial satisfaction, personal satisfaction and social satisfaction). Results revealed that no significant differences were found in overall life satisfaction of elderly people in urban and semi urban dwellings. Significant differences were found in Health satisfaction, Financial satisfaction and Social satisfaction among urban and semi urban elderly.
Satisfaction with life among senior citizens in Pokhara metropolitan city: A cross-sectional study

Introduction: The number of senior citizens in the world is growing rapidly so life satisfaction is the best indicator for evaluating successful aging. The aim of the study was to assess life satisfaction among senior citizens in Pokhara metropolitan city. Methods: This community-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 325 samples from 17 cluster of Pokhara metropolitan city. Life satisfaction were measured through life satisfaction index-A. Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were computed at a 5% level of significance. Study participants were aged 60 years and above, residing permanently in the study sites. Wards, households, and respondents were selected randomly. Data were entered in Epi Data and analyzed using statistical package for the social sciences 16.0 version. Results: Findings revealed that 53.5% respondents were not satisfied with their life. Likewise, age below 70 (52.4%), male respondents (53.7%), senior citizens (60+) living with partner (50.8%) were more satisfied. In multivariate analysis pension (OR=0.482, CI=0.248, 0.935), sufficient money for expenditure (OR=2.370, CI=1.362, 4.123), family income (OR=4.391, CI=2.019, 9.551), state of health (OR= 0.464, CI= 0.215, 0.923) and role in family decision making (OR=2.001, CI=1.055, 3.793) were positively associated with life satisfaction. Conclusions: More than half of the senior citizens were dissatisfied with their life. Financial state, state of health and role in family decision making are the main determinant factors of life satisfaction. Therefore, the authority body needs to be developing proper old age policies to resolute the socioeconomic problems of old people.
Influence of types of living on life satisfaction among elderly of Lucknow city

Aging of population is one of the most significant global phenomena of the 21st century. The issue of aging is experienced by the societies of the world. The present study was conducted to assess the influence of types of living on life satisfaction of elderly in Lucknow city. The present study is based on a sample of 120 people 60 local home residence and 60 old age homes drawn from Lucknow city. Sample consisted of adults living in homes with families it was planned to assess the relationship between life satisfaction and place of living of the old age people. Researcher used standardized scale (Satisfaction with life scale, Diener, E) and self-structured questionnaire. The results of the present study revealed that there is relationship between life satisfaction and place of living of the elderly.
Satisfaction with Life in Elderly With Reference To Gender, Age and Residence
The present study aims at finding out the life satisfaction of elderly with reference to age, gender and residence. A sample of 180 elderly above 60 years were selected for the study and Satisfaction with Life Scale by Diener was administered. The study revealed that there is no difference between gender with regard to satisfaction and significant difference in satisfaction was found between institutionalized and non-institutionalized elderly. Elderly who were residing with their children in family had more satisfaction than their counterparts.
A STUDY ON LIFE SATISFACTION AMONG THE ELDERLY
Everyone desires to be happy in the world. This happiness is varying in degrees and points. Experience is the commissioner of happiness. These experiences have the ability to motivate and de-motivate people to pursue and reach their goals. A person's mood and outlook on life can also influence their perception of their own life satisfaction. The present investigation is conducted to look into the life satisfaction of elderly (above 60 years of age) in respect of gender, previous and present occupation, size of the family, place of living of the children and income of the family. The study indicates that place of living and family income has nothing to do with the life satisfaction of the elderly. But the gender, family size and present and previous occupation of the elderly significantly differ. It is also evident that the elderly people have high level of life satisfaction and as they live and impart values.

Factors associated with the life satisfaction amongst the rural elderly in Odisha, India

Background: Life Satisfaction (LS) is an indicator of subjective well-being (SWB) among the elderly, and is directly associated with health and mortality. Present study deals with the factors associated with the LS among the rural elderly in Odisha, India. Methods: A cross-sectional survey using multi-stage random sampling procedure was conducted among elderly (60+ years) in Bargarh district of Odisha. The survey was conducted among 310 respondents. Hierarchical regression analysis was used to assess the adjusted effect of various socioeconomic , demographic, health conditions (physical and mental), social support and effects of multi-morbidity on LS. Results: Cognitive health was the most influential factor in determining LS among both men (β = 0.327) and women (β = 0.329). Individual's social support also plays an influential role in LS among rural elderly. Elderly who are living alone and have any sort of disability and had low score of activities of daily living (ADL) have also reported significantly lower perceived LS for both the genders. Conclusion: It is necessary to analyze and identify the major factors which can improve upon the level of LS among the elderly population. Better understanding of these factors can help in removing the superfluous anxiety of old age in the mindset of people which is pervading in the society.
Assessing the Life Satisfaction of Elderly Living in Old Age Homes in the City of Ahmedabad

The present study was planned to find out the quality of life and the coping strategies of the inmates of old age homes in the city of Ahmedabad. 50 inmates (Male=33, Female=17) from five old age Homes, were selected through the random sampling method. The elderly subjects were interviewed individually to find out the reasons for coming to live in old age homes and to know their views about the living conditions and their coping strategy in the new environment. The findings of this study revealed that the majority of the elderly people did not get respect, love and affection from their family members and were highly dissatisfied with the behaviour their children. They were considered as a burden by the family members. The respondents were of the view that in old age when health deteriorates and person is unable to work his self respect is badly hurt.
The present enquiry was aimed at studying the life satisfaction and social support of aged men and women with particular reference to North Bihar, India. For the present piece of research work total sample (N=150) comprising aged women (n=75) and aged men (n=75) randomly selected from different districts of North Bihar viz., Begusarai, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur and Samastipur. Subjects‟ age were ranged between 55 – 75 years. Data collected through questionnaires schedules individually from aged women and men by taking them in to confidence and assured that responses provided by them on the items of schedules will be kept strictly confidential. Having tabulated and analyzed the data, results revealed the fact that there is high significant difference between the group of aged women and men towards their degree of life satisfaction which has been statistically found significant at .01 level of confidence, although, aged men were found more prone to higher degree of life satisfaction than women. Moreover, aged women have shown higher degree of social support than aged men, hence, significant difference have been found between the group of aged at .01 level of confidence towards their life satisfaction. The discrepancies of results obtained have been discussed in detail by giving probable reasons. Keywords: life satisfaction, social support, aged men and women, North Bihar
