Background: The nurse manager is one of the nurses who has authority to implement a nursing management system in a nursing organization to achieve goals based on the input, process and output stages, whether the Covid-19 pandemic has positive and negative impacts on the implementation of the nursing management system. Nurse managers' visions of future challenges in health care organizations

Background: Because of the economic crisis and nursing shortage, the situation for hospitals will be demanding throughout the decade in the 2010s. This poses challenges for nursing management. This article focuses on Finnish health care, particularly on nurse managers. Aim: The aim of this study is to describe and analyse future challenges in hospitals in one hospital district in Finland from the viewpoint of the nurse managers. The research question for this study is as follows: What kinds of future challenges are there in one hospital district from the viewpoint of the nurse managers? Method: The data was collected in the year 2011 from a number of essays (n=60) written by front-line and mid-level nurse managers in one hospital district. The data was analysed using a qualitative content analysis. Findings: Nurse managers saw challenges and threats for the future on the level of society, the hospital, the work unitand for employees. Work-unit level challenges were emphasized in these findings. Conclusion: The study shows that nurse managers have the ability to identify challenges in the future that they can influence by carrying out change management procedures. There is a need for more holistic management and closer interprofessional cooperation in health care for the benefit of patients in terms of customer oriented care. Furthermore, shared leadership is needed, which on a work-unit level means better pair management involving a front-line nurse manager and a physician. One requirement for nurse managers is the need to develop a sense of community. The ability to create environments that promote staff well-being is also important from the viewpoint of staff turnover. Nurse managers are usually well educated, so they should make more of an effort to utilize their education in their management work and update their expertise in management matters as well.
Seasoned Nurse Administrators Saga: In the Changing and Challenging Times

This research endeavored to explore, describe and document the saga of experienced nurse administrators to come up with reflective learning in nursing leadership and management. A qualitative phenomenological approach was utilized, specifically descriptive and interpretative methods of Husserl and Heidegger. Purposive sampling and referral were employed to select eight participants from the three fields of nursing administration (academe, hospital, and community) within Luzon, Philippines. An in-depth interview about the participants' experiences in nursing and nursing administration, together with a review of historical narratives and personal accounts were engaged to generate data. The interviews were transcribed verbatim and were analyzed following hermeneutic interpretive phenomenology. An integrated analysis of literature showed parallel descriptions of participants' responses and the context of historical accounts and events in nursing in the Philippines. Four main themes have emerged in the saga of Seasoned Nurse Administrators (SNAs): 1) Nurse administrators' responses according to the need and context of nursing in their times; 2) Nursing foundations and training are geared towards the values of nursing as a service profession, 3) The pathways towards becoming a nurse administrator are marked with competence in the roles undertaken and living the passion for service; 4) SNAs facing challenges are towards the improvement of life conditions, excellence in their profession, and setting advocacies to elevate the nursing profession in the country in the 21st century. A conceptual model was formulated in understanding the paths towards a seasoned nurse administrator. Background: Advanced Practice Nursing (APN) is a concept which has the potential to address health inequities and disparities. In the Philippines, although there have been amendments in the existing nursing law to include APN, the progress remained slow because of numerous barriers and challenges. Objective: To explore the challenges in developing advanced practice nursing in the Philippines Methods: Employing a qualitative design, 15 purposively-selected nurses with experience in APN from the Philippine Nurses Association were interviewed through a round table discussion. Audio-recorded narrative were transcribed, spot-checked, and analyzed thematically. Findings: Analysis culled four themes highlighting the challenges affecting the development of APN in the Philippines: Advanced Practice Nursing vis-à-vis Educational Regulations; Advanced Practice Nursing vis-à-vis Social Responsibility; Advanced Practice Nursing vis-à-vis Organizational Framework; and, Advanced Practice Nursing vis-à-vis Legal Responsibility. Conclusion: The challenges in developing APN in the Philippines is multifactorial and encompass educational, structural, professional, and legal impediments. There is a need for an APN curriculum and licensure or certification program and a well-thought, robust conceptual model contextualized within the Philippine healthcare setting to assist health policy makers develop the necessary guidelines in the implementation of APN in the country.
Nurse managers’ utilization of fayol's theory in nursing

The main aim of this paper is to appreciate and evaluate human resource management practice of nurse managers utilizing Henri Fayol's theory. The study being conducted to health facilities in Southern Leyte purposively employed sixteen respondents qualified based on the inclusion criteria such as having supervisory experience of at least five years, either male or female and with permanent employment status. The study utilized descriptive-evaluative research design in order to collect information without manipulating or changing study subjects and its environment. Demographic data were tabulated using simple percentage. Weighted mean was also used to establish different management practice delivered and implemented by nurse managers. Based from the findings, most of the nurse managers are female (87%), aging 40-47 years old, with an average gross individual monthly income of 17,000 to 25,000 thousand pesos. All of them did not have units of graduate degrees, however underwent trainings parallel to nursing practice. Education and supervisory-related trainings were acquired through shadowing and peer-coaching. Nurse Managers identified that the fast turnover of staff nurses is the leading factor affecting human resource management due to low salary rate of staff nurses. On the other hand, planning and controlling were the least among the five managerial roles delivered by nurse managers. The study recommends enhancement of these management components to effectively deliver care among clientele.

Aim To explore the challenges facing hospital nurse managers (HNMs) in selected hospitals in the Volta region of Ghana. Method The study, which had an exploratory qualitative design, involved the recruitment of 12 HNMs from six public hospitals in the Volta region of Ghana. Purposive sampling was used and data were collected through semi-structured interviews. The conventional content analysis approach was adopted for data analysis. Findings The study revealed several managerial challenges of being HNMs in performing their roles. These include: a lack of managerial preparedness, clear job descriptions and support; interference by other managers; and inadequate nursing staff and material resources. All these compromised the quality of nursing care. Participants found their role tedious and stressful, but also regard it as an opportunity to learn new ideas. Hospital nurse managers face several challenges that negatively affect their performance. There is need for succession planning, career development and mentoring programmes to strengthen HNMS leadership and management skills to help them provide high-quality nursing care.
Lived Experiences of Public Health Nurses: A Phenomenological Inquiry
Occupational challenges and problems have been found to be prevalent in hospital environments and medical workplace. Its effects are not only related with loss of productivity and loss of working hours but with the arousal of diseases and occupational accidents. Nurses are one of the few allied health care professionals who are commonly facing occupational stress as a result from long work shifts, unhealthy working conditions and heavy workloads especially in public work settings. In addition, high levels of stress result in staff burnout and turnover can adversely affect patient care.The objective of the study is to gather necessary information from public health nurses regarding their experiences of dealing with problems induced by occupational stress as well as gathering insights from varied incidents that might suggest solutions to these problems. The study used procedures conducted in qualitative research, particularly using the phenomenological research design. It specifically utilized the Purposive Sampling technique in choosing its participants for the study, providing a diverse range of responses from the participants. Data was gathered from ten (10) participants among nurses of varied age groups, gender and work experience employed in Agusan del Norte Provincial Health Office (ADPHO) located in Brgy. Libertad, Butuan City, through a one-on-one unstructured interview. The participants verbally answered a pre-designed 10 item questionnaire during the interview. This study utilized the Colaizzi Data Analysis tool to organize and describe data to understanding emerging themes from the studied phenomenon. It was found that the themes developed were understaffing and lack of manpower in workplace, the most stressful shift is morning duty, demanding work system, decreased quality of patient care and work performance due to stress, compensation for long working hours, dealing with occupational challenges through having positive morale and collaboration and support from coworkers and staff. The results suggest that identifying prevalent occupational challenges found with in the work environment and devising effective ways to cope with these challenges provide a more stronger nursing workforce providing better quality patient care. The results of the study are especially associated in the medically inclined field, those that are related in healthcare and medicine. It can give insight for health professionals and students who are aiming to land a career in the field in healthcare. The results exhibit information to educate nurses and students on the work environment and occupational challenges that are associated in working as a nurse specifically in public hospitals
Nurse Manager Competency: Views from Executives in Thai Community Hospitals

Background: Adolescent mothers may find the transition to motherhood to be Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the viewpoints of nurse managers and directors of nursing services in community hospitals regarding the essential competencies of head nurses. Methods: A qualitative descriptive design was used to investigate the perspective of nurse managers and directors of nursing services about essential competencies of nurse managers in community hospitals. A total of ten participants (four directors of nursing services and six nurse managers) were interviewed. Findings: Nurse managers and directors of nursing services identified leadership, management, communication, professional ethics, and policy and healthcare environment as the essential competencies for their positions in community hospitals.
Nurse practitioner integration: Qualitative experiences of the change management process

The aim of this qualitative research was to explore perceptions of organisational change related to the integration of nurse practitioners from key nursing stakeholders. The ongoing delivery of effective and efficient patient services is reliant upon the development and sustainability of nurse practitioner roles. Examination of the factors contributing to the underutilization of nurse practitioner roles is crucial to inform future management policies. A change management theory is used to reveal the complexity involved. Qualitative interviews were undertaken using a purposive sampling strategy of key stakeholders. Thematic analysis was undertaken and key themes were correlated to the theoretical framework. The results confirm the benefits of nurse practitioner roles, but suggest organisational structures and embedded professional cultures present barriers to full role optimization.
