A Psychological Study on Stress among Working and Non- Working Married Women

Stress is a part of modern life, with the increasing complexity of life, stress is likely to increase. Stress is built in the concept of role, which is conceived as the position a woman occupies in a system. Women in the modern global world have to play a dual role as a housewife and career builder. The present investigation was conducted to examine the stress among the working and non-workingwomen. It was hypothesized that working women have more stress than non-working women. In order to verify the above hypothesis a sample of 240 women were taken. From which working women (N= 120) and non-workingwomen (N= 120). were taken. To measure the stress, the stress scale developed by DR. Reeta Kumari (2014) was administrated individually to the subjects. The data were subjected to 't' analysis and the major findings of the study reveal that working women's has more stress than nonworking women. The relation between working and non-working women is found significant at 0.01 levels. Similarly, non-tribal women are having more stress than tribal women.

Stress level among working women in Chennai

M anaging a family today is a full time task in itself. Women have taken on multiple roles to adapt changes in society today. They continue meeting family responsibilities, while at the same time they have to work and try to maintain personal interests. Women can view these roles as challenges, or they can perceive them as threats. As demands increase to fulfill these roles, women often feel a sense of losing control and helplessness, making them prone to stress and burnout. Stress management is getting to be quite a big issue nowadays, so one needs to look at the reasons for stress and analyze them, to manage the family effectively. The quality of job life should not put working women in an undue stress. For many working women, stress can be a positive force in their lives, enabling them to do their best. The work load causes women to be affected from stress .

Prevalence and correlates of stress among working women of a tertiary health centre in Delhi, India

Background: There is considerable evidence of stress due to dual role of women at home and work place which is inherent in health care system and negatively impacts their quality of life. Objective: To find out prevalence of stress and its correlates among women working in health sector. Methods: A descriptive cross sectional study was conducted among women staff in campus of a tertiary care centre of New Delhi for a period of six months. A sample of 345 women was selected with equal representation from all departments of the institution. All participants were asked to complete adopted Karasek scale (measuring job strain questionnaire on working women) after obtaining due consent. Results: Prevalence of work stress in our study was 64.6% (223/345). Variables which emerged as independent predictors of work stress even after accounting for possible confounders were those who perceived stress, having contractual job and having problems at work. Conclusions: Our study identifies some potential factors, which if eliminated or changed, could lead to a decrease in the stress level among health care workers.

A STUDY ON STRESS MANAGEMENT OF WOMEN EMPLOYEES WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO COIMBATORE DISTRICT

According to (WHO), health is a state of complete physical, psychological and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. In India, a large number of working women employees is facing stress. The studies conducted so far have an endeavor to analyze the stress and related problems of the working women employees. The Questionnaire method was used. Non-Probability sampling technique was used in this study. The Questionnaire tool were engaged to analyze the data Finally this study concluded that working women employees how they are facing and managing stress in their personal and professional .Hence steps are provided in managing their personal advantageous to reduce their stress.

A COMPARATIVE STUDY TO ASSESS THE LEVEL OF STRESS AMONG WORKING AND NON WORKING WOMEN

ARTICLE INFO ABSTRACT Background: Stress affects not only our physical health but our mental well being, too. To successfully manage stress in everyday lives, individual can learn to relax and enjoy life. The best way to manage stress is to prevent it. This may not be always possible. So, the next best things are to reduce stress and make life easier. Stress refers to any environmental, organizational and individual or internal demands, which require the individual to readjust the usual behavior pattern. Degree of stress results from events or situations that have potential to cause change. Stimuli or situations that can result in the experience of stress are called stressors. There are three major sources of stress environmental, individual and organizational. Objectives of the Study  To assess the level of stress among working women.  To assess the level of stress among non working women.  To compare the level of stress between working and non working women.  To associate the level of stress among working women with selected demographic variables.  To associate the level of stress among non working women with selected demographic variables. Methodology: The conceptual framework used in the study is Pender's health Promotional Model. The research design adopted for the present study was descriptive design. The study was conducted in Bangalore. Non probability Purposive Sampling technique was used. The sample comprised of 30 working women and 30 non working women. A self structured questionnaire consists of two sections A & B. section A consists of demographic profile and Section B consists of 60 open ended questions to assess the level of stress among women. Result: The overall mean of the level of stress was 104.53 (± 6.653) for working women and 145.83 (± 8.76) for non working women. The calculated 't' value was 20.57 which was statistically significant at P<0.001. There was significant association of level of stress with the demographic variable 'occupation' for both working and non working women which was statistically significant at P<0.001. Interpretation and Conclusion: The study concluded that there was significant difference between the levels of stress among working and non working women. The study revealed that working women need to have guidance on effective stress management measures.

AN EMPIRICAL STUDY ON STRESS LEVEL AMONG WOMEN EMPLOYEES AND ITS IMPACT ON THEIR BEHAVIOR/HEALTH

The paper studies the causes of stress among women employees working in BPO sector. The data for the study was collected from two companies engaged in BPO activities. For accomplishing the objective of this research, a structured questionnaire was designed and administered on 50 employees selected from all levels. Information was also collected through personal interviews and observation for getting deeper insights with regard to the topic of study. Both the organizational and individual factors were analyzed for availing a focused perspective on the causes of stress. It was identified that the employees mostly suffer from stress due to heavy work load leads to work life imbalance anxieties and ill health. Women constitute a significant number of the workforce in BPO sector in the country. They are primarily in their mid-twenties and qualified with graduate or post graduate degrees.. However, it has been found that thin strains of discontentment creep in over time on issues such as inadequate salary packages, differential promotional prospects and increments, ambiguous service conditions, irregular and arduous work schedules and lack of facilities in workplace.

A comparative study to assess the level of stress and coping strategies among married working and non-working women residing in selected urban areas of Dehradun, Uttarakhand

Background and Objective: Today, with the rapid diversification of human activity, we come face to face with numerous causes of stress and the symptoms of anxiety and depression. A study was done to compare the level of stress and coping strategies among married working and non working women in the selected urban areas of Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Methods: The sample size of the research study were married fifty working women and fifty non working women selected by non-probability purposive sampling technique. To assess the level of stress a standardized perceive stress scale was used and to determine the level of coping strategies a semi structured tool was developed. Results: The findings revealed that the mean and standard deviation of the working women (17.06±8) were found slightly higher than the mean and standard deviation of non-working women (14.46±7.80). Whereas t=1.203 which shows that there is no significant difference in the level of stress among working and non-working women. While when the comparison was made for the level of coping strategies among working and non-working women results revealed that the mean and standard deviation of the working women (29.16±5.577) were very slightly higher than the mean and standard deviation of non-working women (28.24±5.612). Whereas the t=0.644 which depicts that there is no significant difference in the level of coping strategies among working and non-working women. Chi square revealed only the association between the stress and family monthly income of non-working women. On the other side Chi square revealed association only among working women of coping strategies with religion and family monthly income. Whereas in non-working women there was association of coping strategies with education, religion and family monthly income. Conclusion: On the whole we can conclude that the both working and non-working women were having moderate level of stress and also coping moderately with the stress.

Factors Causing Stress among Working Women and Strategies to Cope Up

Families today are seeing rapid changes due to the increased pace of growth and modernization. Indian women belonging to all classes have entered into various professions which causes stress in their personal and professional life. Women's exposure to educational opportunities is significantly higher than it was some years ago, especially in the cities. Our study have identified socioeconomic stressors, psychological and family and relationship stressors causing stress among working women and strategies to cope up with it, though study was conducted among working women in different sectors in Bangalore city. A sample of 100 respondents was chosen on the basis of stratified random sampling technique. Statistical tools like factor analysis and regression coefficient were used to develop Structural Equation Model. The findings of the study reveal that under socioeconomic stressors unexpected guests, followed by absence of domestic help causes major stress among working women. Similarly being perfectionist with unnecessary worries which cause psychological set back among working women. Moreover anxiety about children future and husbands job insecurity play a major role in causing stress under family and relationship. Thus the working women need to have work life balance and imbibe stress management strategies like meditation, balanced diet filled with entertainment and fun to lead a stress free life.

WORK STRESS MANAGEMENT AND EMOTIONAL WELL BEING OF WORKING WOMEN

Women in India have come a long way after independence. From just a skilled homemaker, women today have acquired skills and capabilities at par with their male counterparts. This is the new generation of women, who want to pursue their dream career. But their life is not a bed of roses for all. Women act as backbone for family and society. They are responsible for their children's future and their family activities. In past century, women stayed in home and did the entire house hold activities, now days it has been changed. Women in recent years go to work to improve their financial status. Now women are playing multi-dimensional role. They perform work at office as well as in home; this brings an imbalance to them. By these, women are physically and mentally affected. This gives rise to study the work stress among working women. The present study was carried out with the help of collection of primary and secondary data. Primary data were collected with the help of a structured questionnaire and secondary data were collected from books, journal and websites. Samples constituting 133 respondents were selected by adopting convenient sampling technique. After collecting the primary data the researcher has thoroughly verified the data and arranged them for analysis with the help of mean, standard deviation, rank correlation. Suitable suggestions are also propounded for the management of the organization to take steps to reduce the employees' level of stress through counseling and reinforcement techniques.
