Students’ Views of Environmental Issues: The Experience of a Federal Brazilian University
World Sustainability Series, 2015
Many tools have been used to measure and disseminate sustainable actions in universities, as shown by the Association of University Leaders for a Sustainable Future (ULSF 2008). In 2011, the University of São Paulo developed a virtual platform called Information, Awareness and Assessment of Sustainability in Higher Education Institutions to promote the participation of the university community (students, lecturers and administrative staff) in the assessment of sustainability in the university. The initiative later attracted the attention of other Brazilian universities. This work presents the results of the "sustainability test" applied to a group of students of the Federal University of São Carlos. In their opinion, the university should invest more in environmental education and improve management systems related to waste reuse/recycling and clean technologies. The views concerning these and other environmental issues have contributed to improve the actions of university managers and teachers towards a sustainable future.
Conceptions of Brazilian Undergraduates About the Environment and Environmental Education
US-China Education Review B, 2015
ENVIRONMENT AND ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION 84 education. The majority of the students related their concepts to the development of environmental awareness-raising (i.e., the beginning of the third level of understanding) and the remainder of the students as the transmission of information and norms (i.e., the second level of understanding). The conclusion is reached that with regard to the training of Geography undergraduates and also with regard to environmental education, a curricular perspective is needed that places value on interdisciplinarity and educational practice as a problematization of geographical spatiality in socio-environmental interrelations.

Diagnosis of the Knowledge of Students and Professors About Environmental Education - Case Study.
2021
The objective of this work was to investigate the treatment of the theme Environmental education in a transversal way with the students of the 1st periods of the courses of Buildings and Integrated Sanitation of the IFPE (Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Pernambuco) - Campus Recife, under the perspective of awareness of these students, with mathematics as an important aid tool. The survey took place in July and August 2020, where questionnaires were applied through Google Forms to 80 students. In a second step, another form was sent to the teaching segment, in a total of 50 questionnaires. The questions addressed in the questionnaires to students led to points such as the perception of the existence of environmental problems, also seeking to analyze the degree of understanding of students in relation to mathematics as a support to environmental education. Subsequently, tabulation, statistical treatment and analysis of the data obtained through descriptive statistics were performed. The results revealed that a significant portion of the students came to understand that the environmental issue is not only a matter of nature, but also of society. Although, it should be noted that some of them can better understand what an environmental problem is than fully understand what the environment is. As for the professors, they demonstrated to relate to the current reality of the planet, however, a portion of this segment suggests that the structure of work to approach the theme is not so adequate.

Abstract Encouraging the adoption of a pro-environmental behavior is critical in order to reduce the environmental impacts and to move toward a more sustainable future. Higher education plays an important role in training professionals who have an important role in protecting the environment in the future. e aim of this study is to identify whether there are significant differences between college students depending on their diploma of specialization, related to the environment or not, the year in which they are studying and gender. e sample consisted of 383 engineering students in first, third and sixth year, with two instruments designed to measure environmental attitudes and behaviors. Significant differences were found between students pursuing diplomas related to the environment and those who are not. Otherwise, no significant differences were observed between students enrolled in different levels. Perceived effort, positive environmental attitude or perceived positive consequents predict the frequency of pro-environmental behaviors in students, the former (perceived effort, negative) being the most influential variable.

Environmental issues have triggered a complex relationship between society and nature. The role of environmental education is crucial to relate society, environment, biodiversity and sustainability. Current paper analyzes the concept of environmental education and sustainable development by postgraduate students in Education in Science and Mathematics of a Brazilian university. Qualitative research was undertaken in July 2014 by content analysis of the questionnaires and interviews (Lüdke e André, 1986) on the environmental theme. Current analysis showed that environmental education is intensely studied in primary education, albeit in a conservationist mode due to the lack of initial and continuous formation. Several participating students underlined that they had never taught environmental education in the primary school since they never had any contact with the discipline in their undergraduate course, a gap in initial formation. Although formation is urgent, it is greatly impaired and barriers have to be overcome. It is the case of one´s own formation, difficulties in interdisciplinary inclusion and the need of public policies in environmental education in higher education. Environmental education is increasingly being taught in all teaching levels for environmental sustainability, while professionals have improved their upgrading to contribute towards the long process in changes for a better life quality.

Environmental Awareness Among Higher Education Students
International Journal For Multidisciplinary Research
Environmental awareness is the impression of being knowledgeable about the environment. It states the set of principles, opinions, and morals that assist us in contributing to the well-being of the natural environment thus analysing and understanding the problems associated with it. In the existing scenario, knowing, identifying, and familiarizing ourselves with our environmental surroundings has made us aware of the crucial danger that it is in. The conservation, protection, and preservation of the natural environment have become of the highest importance because of the constant neglect that the students have shown towards it. Environmental education plays a significant role in the development of environmental awareness. So, the researcher wanted to conduct this research. The objective of the present study was to find out about Environmental Awareness among Higher Education Students. This study is done by using the Descriptive Survey Method and the Researcher has analysed data in a...

University sustainability is a notion with tremendous transformative potential. Knowledge is essential to understand how colleges communicate it to their students in order to assess their potential for transformation. The objective of this study was to assess the level of training in sustainability and associate it with environmental attitudes towards specific problems of university students in Latin-american. Through a quantitative, correlational and cross-sectional design, two scales were applied to measure the study variables. The population consisted of 3456 university students from 15 public and private universities in Latinamerican. Using the simple random probability sampling method with a confidence level of 95% and a margin of error of 5%, the sample consisted of 383 university students. It was found that there was a highly significant relationship between training in sustainability and the environmental attitude towards specific problems of university students in Latin-american. Universities not only have an impact on the improvement of the quality of life of the university community, but they should also try to intervene in the spaces under a sustainable approach, understanding that students should be the main actors for environmental care.
