A new approach to production of mass suppliable water purifier (original) (raw)

Development of low cost mass suppliable water purifier for flood disaster

Disastrous flood in Malaysia, since December 2014, leaved huge number of victims with deficiency of water, food, energy and transportation. Lack of potable water is one of the most serious problems, since it is the most vital factor or human life. Since water is relatively heavy goods to be delivered with wrecked transportation system, mass-supplying effective water purification system to the victims would be practical. The system should satisfy following conditions: 1. Low cost and easy to make; 2. Easy to transport, install and operate; 3. Small energy consumption (or powered by renewable energy, inexpensive batteries or human power which are easily accessible on the user’s places); 4.Outdoor usable; 5. High credibility, especially on sterilization aspect. Some appropriate technologies, such as charcoal filtering water purifiers are one of good candidate. However, unfortunately, it is hard to maintain the filters always in good status, since input water quality, daily filter usage and maintenance may vary. Therefore, we may need more reliable solution than simple filter system. Once the prototype developed, masssupply of the system could be delivered to the flood victims in future. The development can be done by collaborative effort between Malaysia and Korea.

Construction of Water Purifying Device

Academic Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies, 2013

The consumption of non-purified water in almost all rural and parts of urban settlement have been an issue to human health and in some cases result to death among the infants and adults. Water is essential to human life but naturally not pure for human consumption due to the concentration of particulate matters including suspended particles, parasites, bacteria, algae, viruses, fungi and a range of dissolved materials derived from the surface that the water may have made contact with. Artificial means have been adopted by man to eliminate the influence of this foreign body from water to make it safe for consumption. However, the intake of chemical has an advance influence on a man. For example chlorine has a bleaching action. In an effort to seek for means of substituting for the use of artificial means for purifying water, the abundant solar energy was exploited. This paper therefore focused at construction of a simple water-purifying device by using solar energy. In constructing these devices local materials were used and were powered by natural sources of energy (solar energy). The constructed device was used and tested with room temperature of about 305 o k then after exposing it to the solar energy the temperature roused to about 360 0 k after some hours. The research work ended by making suggestions for more research work on the project.

Determination of Filtration and Purification System for Flood Water Filter

International Journal of Engineering & Technology

Water is one of the basic needs which essential to life but cannot take it easy, it becomes more concern when a flood, there is plenty of dirty water than clean water, and the sources of the water are not approved to use. There are many kinds of waterborne pathogens which can donate diseases also death if not treating the water well before use. The treatment can be utilized based on the size of the microorganism. By identifying the size of the smallest bacteria will make easier to find the filtration based on the size of filter pores and other processes to ensure all the bacteria is removed and the water safe to use. Even there are many kinds of bacteria or microorganisms in the contaminated water, but the pathogens need to deal. The water will become clean and safe to use when the colour is clear and there is any pathogenic microorganism in there. This study is to ensure water is clean from pathogen after the flood water is filtered by know for sure the organism’s size and to overc...

LA CONSOLACION COLLEGE PRODUCTION OF A PORTABLE WATER PURIFIER USING LOW COST AND LOCAL MATERIALS-BALANSAG MAYBEL A .BS BIO

Filtration of water is one of the effective methods of purification by removing physical, chemicals, and biological contaminants to produce a clean and safe water. Thus, the production of Portable Water Purifier through filtration by using local materials such as sea urchin (Tripneustes gratilla) shells, dead corals (Acropora cervicornis), charcoal in a granulated form, and selected pebbles as filters is the objectives of this study. This filtration process uses 30 grams each of the mentioned filter materials, and arranged them accordingly from top to bottom, and in this order; granulated dead corals, granulated sea urchin shells, selected pebbles, and granulated charcoal. The 100 ml of water taken from river and canal were pour and percolated through the filters, and were tested in the laboratory before and after filtration. Water sample was divided into five sets, composing 20 ml each and were tested on the following parameters; total coliform, Escherichia coli, heterotrophic plate count (HPC) and as well as pH. Water sample before using the Portable Water Purifier were tested for the presence of the volume of pollutants .Five test sets were made and after which the mean was computed. The results shows that the Portable Water Purifier was able to eliminate generally the pollutants. Result shows that there was a decrease in contaminant levels, thus the filtered water pass the Philippine Standards for Drinking Water of 2017. Although the Escherichia coli remained the same for water canal parameters before and after filtration but passed the recommended contaminant levels. In addition, there is a significant difference in water quality parameters in terms of; total coliform, Escherichia coli, heterotrophic plate count/ HPC, and pH before and after filtration (p<0.01) using the Portable Water Purifier. Escherichia coli as parameter in water LA CONSOLACION COLLEGE PRODUCTION OF A PORTABLE WATER PURIFIER USING LOW COST AND LOCAL MATERIALS-BALANSAG MAYBEL A .BS BIO 12 coming canal, do not indicate any significant difference before and after filtration (p> 0.01) using the Portable Water Purifier for the number of contaminants were the same before and after filtration. The production of Portable Water Purifier is found to be effective. Further study is recommended using other low cost and local materials.

SOLAR WATER PURIFIER

In all generations of human beings water plays a very crucial role for everyone. As, we know that impure water can cause various kinds of disease which are life threatening .In all over the world many countries has facing water issues most of them they don't have water to drink. We have observed that small villages and middle class families are not able to buy a water purifier and also many villages are facing electricity issues. There is limited conventional energy also they effect on environment. In this research paper, we are using non-conventional method which Solar based Water purifier which runs on solar energy. We have to achieve the purification process on next level where it's accessible & affordable for all humans. The Solar panel used for generate direct current which is stored in battery. This purifier is used for filtering process to remove the unwanted bacteria, dirt from water this process completely execute with the help of solar energy. Design and Development of a Dual Solar Water Purifier

Dual solar water purifier, solar still, SODIS, purified water, affordable total costs, maintenance. In this work, dual solar water purifier was designed and developed using locally available engineering materials. Using the sun as the principal source of energy, a cheap low technological method was used to produce small quantities of safe drinking water. The sun provides heat and ultraviolet (UV) light as the two key elements that destroy pathogen in water. They aided the formulation of the water purifying models. Two popular methods of purifying water were combined to create new purifiers' design models. This design comprises of two already existing methods of purifying water, the Solar Still and the SODIS (Solar water Disinfection). The addition of the two methods creates the intended dual water purifier. They both aided each other in that Solar Still produced much more purified water but at a lower volume while the other, higher volume at a shorter period when exposed to the same solar intensity. The materials used for this design played an important part in the performance evaluations of the purifier. The percentage of the mount of purified water was evaluated after various days of testing whereby efficient results were achieved and discussed. The amount of purified water and efficiencies from a total volume of 8litres and 500ml for each bottle for both Solar Still and SODIS bottles after various days of testing were 5.5litres, 4.8litrres, 5.0litres and 68.75%, 60%, 62.5% respectively. The efficiency of the dual purifier is dependent on some variables such as the amount of water to be purified, the solar intensity and other thermal quantities. An affordable total costs of production of fifty four thousand and four hundred naira (₦54,400=00) was spent, an equivalent of 346.50or₤209.00)atconversionrateof₦157=346.50 or ₤209.00) at conversion rate of ₦157 = 346.50or₤209.00)atconversionrateof₦157=1 and ₦260 = ₤1. This paper presents an efficient and effective dual purifier, which is affordable for household use and requires little or no training for operation and maintenance.
