Proceedings of the International Conference on Educational Sciences and Teacher Profession (ICETeP 2018), 2019

The problem solving skills are part of learning mathematics and an important component of 21st century education. But students often experience success doing it. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between mathematical abilities, self-efficacy and problem solving abilities. This is a result of low mathematical abilities and self-efficacy. The research was a survey. Samples were randomly selected as many as 135 students from whole high school students in the Kota Bengkulu. The research instruments were a self-efficacy questionnaire, a mathematical ability test and a mathematical problem solving test. Data was analyzed using structural equation modeling. We used LISREL 8.8 to test the structural model. The results, there is a positive direct effect of mathematics ability on problem solving abilities; there is a positive direct effect of self-efficacy on problem solving abilities, and there is a positive direct effect of mathematics ability on self-efficacy.

Determinants of Self Efficacy in Mathematical Communication Elementary School Students

AL-ISHLAH: Jurnal Pendidikan

The tendency of cognitive formal mathematics learning brings some students into the perception that mathematics tends to be cognitive. Meanwhile, there is another perception that states that students enjoy learning mathematics. It is related to students' self-efficacy in students' mathematical processes, especially mathematical communication. The study aims to explain the determination of self-efficacy in mathematical communication. The research method used is a literature study from 2010 to 2021. Data obtained from databases include ScienceDirect, ProQuest, Google Scholar, and Wiley Online with the keywords self-efficacy, mathematics self-efficacy, mathematics communication, primary school learning. This literature study found 39 articles that matched the inclusion and exclusion criteria. From the review of the article, it is known that there are: (1) the role of mathematical communication in solving elementary school mathematics problems, (2) there is a relationship betwee...

Determination of Self-Efficacy Beliefs of High School Students towards Math Literacy

The purpose of this study is to determine the high school students’ self-efficacy beliefs about math literacy, and examine this beliefs in terms of some variables. The research was conducted on 712 high school students. A questionnaire and Math Literacy Self-Efficacy Scale were used for data collection. The data were analyzed in terms of t-test, one way anova and multiple regression analysis. According to the result of the study: it was determined that there were significant differences in math literacy self-efficacy in terms of gender, school type, class level, math degree, parents’ educational status and the importance given to math classes. On the other hand, it was found that, math achievement and importance given to math classes variables were significant predictor of the math literacy self-efficacy. The findings were discussed in the light of related literature.

An Analysis of Mathematical Self-Efficacy of the 10th Grade MIPA Students of MAN Salatiga

Indonesian Journal of Mathematics Education, 2020

The skills required in the 21st century are highly varied. One of them is a skill in the affective aspect, such a self-efficacy which needs to be developed. Self-efficacy can affect someones future success. Someone who has a high self-efficacy will overshoot something easier than reality. But on the other hand, a person with low self-efficacy will perceive something more difficult than reality. This causes someone to get stress and depression easily. This research aims to find out and describe the mathematical self-efficacy of students. This research is qualitative descriptive research. The subjects of the research were the students of the 10th grade MIPA of MAN Salatiga for the academic year 2018/2019 which amounted to 73 students. The instrument is used as a self-efficacy questionnaire format developed from a self-efficacy of Sutanto (2018). The instrument consists of 20 statements and has been validated by expert lecturers. The results of the research showed that 2,74% of student...

The Relationship between Self-efficacy and Achievement In Mathematics among Secondary Students

International Seminar on Education for all - Issues, Challenges and Perspectives, 2017

Study of Mathematics at secondary level is the foundation stage of Higher Education. Every secondary school students should study mathematics as a compulsory subject so that he/she gains a basic quantum of Mathematical knowledge as a part of general education. In our society there exists a general belief that mathematics is a subject for boys. Even today a very few people encourage girl students to opt for this subject. In the present study data have been collected from secondary students through questionnaire and their self efficacy have been compared. The objective of the present study is to determine the relationship between Self-efficacy in mathematics and Achievement in Mathematics in M.P. The sample consisted of 428 students, both boys and girls of just passed out Class X, selected from 12 schools from the district South 24 Paraganas of West Bengal. The tools used were " Mathematics Self Efficacy Questionnaire " adapted from Mathematics Self Efficacy and Anxiety Questionnaire (MSEAQ), (May, 2009). The results show that the self efficacy differs among students with different Streams and gender. In particular, the higher score in mathematics in M.P students, the better is their self efficacy. Thus, self efficacy in mathematics may be regarded as a factor in the acquisition of mathematical skill.
