This study aims to describe the teaching techniques used by tutors in teaching speaking in English Tutorial Program (ETP) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. The subject of this reseach was 10 tutors of ETP (English Tutorial Program) and 20 students. This research used qualitative method. The qualitative data were obtained through observation and interview. The data were analyzed through data reduction, presentation of data and conclusion drawing. This study used theory proposed by Harmer (2005) in analyzing the teaching speaking teachnique. The result of the research showed that there were three teaching speaking techniques that tutors used in teaching speaking skill in ETP, namely, role-playing technique, discussion technique and presentation technique.

Penelitian ini mendeskripsikan tipe teknik yang digunakan oleh guru bahasa Inggris di SMA N 2 Sukoharjo untuk mengembangkan kemampuan berbicara siswa dalam bahasa Inggri, tujuan dari penggunaan teknik, peran guru, peran siswa, dan materi pendukung. Jenis dari penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif khususnya Naturalistik Studi dalam menganalisis data. The purpose of our study is to investigate works of scholars about the problems of speaking in learning foreign languages. We try to analyze the difficulties in doing speaking exercises in mixed level groups. In our study we refer to Wenden's statement (1986), who noted that we need to find out speaking problems in order to improve speaking skill. According to it, we discovered difficulties in speaking of students in mixed level groups. These difficulties helped us to find the ways of improving students' abilities to speak authentic materials and apply them in communication. Problems in speaking in mixed level groups were taken from the results of questionnaire. Students' questionnaire determined the effective ways of using role plays and various activities in practice. The result of our study showed that different creative activities in English classes motivate students to learn foreign languages, and improve knowledge. Speaking as one of the language skills becomes important topics to discuss in language learning process. The discussion topics can be related to the instructional techniques, the learners manifest and produce meaningful and appropriate utterances .

Techniques are a way to assist students to explore and increase their ability, so that the teachers are suggested to use the techniques to reach the goals and objectives of teaching. Thus, in teaching English, speaking is one of four skills that have to be taught. The technique of tutoring speaking is the best part of the educational process in speaking class. Many techniques can be implemented in tutoring English at formal school or informal school. This study intended to discover the techniques and techniques implementation in tutoring speaking in intermediate class at English Transmigration Village. The study implemented a descriptive method and a qualitative approach. Two tutors in the intermediate class were taken as the sample. This study focuses on analyzing the process of classroom interaction through Flanders Interaction Analysis Categories System (FIACS). The main purpose of this study is to know the improvement of teaching English speaking by using Communicative Language Teaching method. The method of this research is classroom action research (CAR). The data in this research is used percentages analysis. The respondents of this research are VII A students of Mts Ja-alhaq, Sentot Ali Basa Islamic Boarding School of Bengkulu which consist of 25 students. Based on result of data analysis there are improvements on students' speaking achievement in each cycle. The data shows that in pre-assessment students' speaking is 0% (excellent), 0% (very good), 20% (good) 36% (low) and 44% (failed). In cycle I students speaking achievement is 0%

This study aimed at describing the teaching and learning process of English conversation in SMAN 3 Yogyakarta. This subject focuses on speaking skill. This study was qualitative research conducted in SMAN 3 Yogyakarta from March to April 2014. The subjects of this study were eleventh grade students of SMAN 3 Yogyakarta, two English conversation teachers, and a teaching assistant. To collect data, observations and interviews were used. This research aimed to find out what teaching speaking techniques are used and the reasons for using the techniques by the tutors at Peace English Course, Pare, Kediri to overcome learners’ difficulties in speaking. The method of this research was a descriptive qualitative method. The researchers obtained the data by observing the three classes of speaking programs, interviewing the tutors of the three classes, and data documents from the Peace English Course. The finding of this research showed that the techniques applied by the tutors were Storytelling, conversation, presenting, problem-solving, discussion, debate, and speech. Story-telling and conversation were applied for the beginner level class while presentation, problem-solving, discussion, debate, and speech were applied for the advanced level class.
