6th International Conference on Multidisciplinary Research, 2019
The paper examined the problems of information seeking behavior of library patrons in academic libraries in Kaduna, Nigeria. Three research questions, three objectives and one hypothesis formed the basis of the study. The study was based on descriptive design and the population consisted of visitors from both studies. A multistage cluster random sampling method was used to determine the sample and the Yamane's formula to determine the sample size of 782 persons for both institutions. The tool used for the study was a structured questionnaire. Of the 782 copies of the questionnaires distributed, 700 were recovered and analyzed for the study. Pre-test was conducted and was further subjected to reliability coefficient (split-half). The data were subjected to frequency counts, percentages and PPMC was employed to test the hypothesis. The study found that the level of awareness of library resources in both universities has improved significantly by providing adequate information about the services provided to respondents, and that they were more familiar with books / e-books, electronic journal/journals, newspaper and media resources etc. It concluded that library patrons do not use services such as CAS, DBS, indexing services, FTP, etc. because of their limited knowledge. It recommended by encouraging the libraries of both institutions be equipped and updated with up-to-date resources and information to meet the needs of the libraries of the twenty-first era.

In this case only the student's library user that were available in the library as at the time of this research were used for the study. Questionnaire instrument was used for data collection. A total of eight hundred and thirty-one (831) copies of questionnaire were administered and eight hundred (800) copies were retrieved and found usable. Data was analyzed using Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Analysis. The results of the analysis revealed a significant relationship between the librarian's selective skills and students' use of library resources. Based on these findings, it was recommended, among others that; Librarians should continue to make sure that the right materials are purchase in the library for optimal utilization.

Questionnaire was used in collecting data. Out of 180 copies of the questionnaire administered, 134 (74.4%) were completed and returned. Descriptive statistics was used to analyze data using frequency counts, tables and percentages. The findings showed that the majority of library users were students and they needed information that supports their education, which were sought mainly from their 2 personal textbooks. The study examined the economics of demanding for information resource, with emphasis on the critical factors affecting the demand for information resources among university library users in 5 out of the 7 federal universities that were fully operational in NorthWest Nigeria during the study period. The study adopted descriptive survey and used quantitative methodology to collect data, via the use of questionnaire from 376 registered users that were randomly sampled for the study. Based on a response rate of 75.2%, the study revealed that both library users and their libraries are responsible for the observed critical factors affecting demand for information resources, among the university libraries in NorthWest Nigeria. While users were not following the appropriate technique for demanding information resources, it was discovered that university libraries were not good enough in providing current and up to date information resources to their users. The study shows that users of university libraries in NorthWest Nigeria are fairly satisfied with information resources they demand because of the poor articulation of their information needs and their inability of using catalogue to demand for information resources. Other issues critically affecting demand for information resources include users' inability of using boolean search techniques, outdated or non-current resources as well as inadequate computer and other information technology hardware for accessing information resources. The study approached the availability, accessibility, and utilization of information resources by students of in the Federal University of Technology, Owerri. It was revealed that the university library was used by students to support classroom activities and therefore students relied on the information resources available mostly in print format for academic support. It was revealed that students utilized the information resources that were available and accessible in the library. However, the library had limited sources of information, and the available resources were not maximally positioned for access by students. Students' use of internet shows the need for the library to increase technology and digital information resources to improve the availability and accessibility of information resources for students to utilize other than the ones provided in print format. To achieve this study, a total of 681 users comprised the sample population and the questionnaire as the means of data collection.
