Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the Distance Education System: An overview
The education system is highly dynamic in nature. Formerly open and distance learning programs relied mostly on the print media,i.e. mailing of print educational materials, radio and television broadcast, telephonic support, EDUSAT-educational satellite. With the evolution of new trends in technology like Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), real-time and recorded seminars, real-time video classes, there are various types of effective distance learning systems that provide rapid responses and real time feedback breaking the geographic barriers of communication. Reduction in bandwidth costs and the use of the smartphone has enabled widespread use of internet possible. This has helped people in gaining expertise in multidisciplinary fields and improve their skills easily. Distance education is offered under formal as well non formal educational frameworks and are gaining popularity with the ease of access using mobile technology. It can be used either to supplement or complement traditional classroom teaching learning process. In this paper, we discuss the integration of ICT in the distance mode of learning.
Use of ICTs in Online Distance Education
Global Learn, 2011
We invite teachers, system administers and researchers who interest in ICT integration and/or developed successful models of ICT application in open and distance education. In order to discuss lively and fruitfully, we introduce a case study of the University of the South Pacific (USP). USP established in 1968 and is jointly owned by the governments of twelve countries. USP is the only university of its type in the world and offers programs through distance and flexible learning in a variety of modes and technologies throughout fifteen USP campuses. USP operates a system that delivers programs via a satellite based at first two way audio communication system and now grows to a modern ICT based network (USPNet). In 2010 educational and technical services of the JapanPacific ICT Centre on Laucala Campus in Fiji began enhancing utilization of USPNet and improving the quality of higher education in all twelve USP member countries.
I INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ASE-I - 2021: APPLIED SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING: ASE-I - 2021, 2021
In the context of the formation of a digital society and the development of the digital economy, it would be impossible to leave the education system unchanged. The integration of information technologies into the educational process of higher education is today the key to the acquisition by students of professional competencies and skills for the modern economy. Digitalization affects not only the content of education, but also its organization aimed at forming the modern digital educational environment of the university. The article describes technologies that allow you to maintain a balance between the best methods of traditional training and a new understanding of the distance learning process on the example of effective practices of the
Using ICT in Distance Education: a Case
Proceedings of the 2001 InSITE Conference
The paper describes a distance education course which uses ICT in a number of ways. In the first place the World Wide Web provides for part of the content. Next, the course is as far as possible available in a hyperstructure in electronic form. Finally, most of the necessary communication (for example between the students and between the students and their teacher) is supported by ICT. The paper describes extensively experiences with this course.
Technology's Role in Distance Education
Encyclopedia of Information Science and Technology
Learning is enhanced by the physical and social technologies typically used in distance education. Students in distance programs typically have access to tools that allow them to repeat lectures and interact with their fellow students and faculty. Students in all classes, including face-to-face and blended courses, benefit from having similar tools and technologies available. This article will review common tools and technologies used in distance education, and demonstrate why they can facilitate learning and expand the educational opportunities for both distant and traditional students.
The New ways in the Distance Education
2010
Abstract The new ways of learning available in the distance education programs differ a lot from the traditional ones. That is the reason why the more and more ample integration of the new informatics and communication technologies in the learning process, needs a profound reconsidering of the contemporary didactics, because the new means of learning available through these new technologies differ fundamentally from the learning and the teaching of the traditional classroom.
