Passive Q Switching of a Diode-Pumped 946-nm Nd:YAG Laser with 1.6-W Average Output Power
Applied Optics, 1998
As much as 1.6-W average output power was emitted in a simple setup from a diffusion-bonded Nd:YAG rod with 70 -100-ns Q-switched pulses at 946 nm and repetition frequencies between 15 and 45 kHz at 22-W incident diode-pump power. A Cr 4ϩ :YAG crystal with a bleachable loss of approximately 2.5% and a length of 0.5 mm was used as a saturable absorber. The extraction efficiency was 47% in comparison with the continuous-wave laser output power of 3.37 W in the free-running regime.
High-peak-power passively Q-switched 1.3 \mu m Nd:YAG/V3+:YAG laser pumped by a pulsed laser diode
Chinese Optics Letters, 2015
We demonstrate a high-pulse-energy, short-pulse-width passively Q-switched (PQS) Nd:YAG∕V 3þ :YAG laser at 1.3 μm, which is end-pumped by a pulsed laser diode. During the PQS regime, a maximum total output pulse energy of 3.3 mJ is obtained under an absorbed pump pulse energy of 21.9 mJ. Up to 400 μJ single-pulse energy is realized with the shortest pulse width of 6.16 ns and a pulse repetition frequency of 34.1 kHz, corresponding to a peak power of 64.9 kW. The high-energy laser pulse is operated in the dual wavelengths of 1319 and 1338 nm, which is a potential laser source for THz generation.
Short pulse, high peak power, diode pumped, passively Q-switched 946 nm Nd:YAG laser
Optics Communications, 2007
We report on generation of 946 nm laser pulses of a few nanosecond duration and up to 3.7 kW peak power from a compact diodepumped passively Q-switched Nd:YAG laser. This power is 2.5 times as much as what previously has been obtained from this type of a laser. The short pulses with the record high peak power may be particularly attractive for laser range finding type applications.
Diode side-pumped 1.3414 μm Nd:YAP laser in Q-switched mode
Applied Optics, 2007
A diode side-pumped acousto-optic Q-switched Nd:YAP laser operating at 1.3414 m has been reported. The stabilities of resonators and the influence of the temperature of cooling water on output power have been experimentally investigated. The average output powers and pulse widths with different couplers and repetition rates have also been measured and analyzed. Under the repetition rate of 5 kHz, a maximum average output power of 47.5 W was obtained with an optical-optical conversion efficiency of 8.6% and a slope efficiency of 20.2%. The peak power and the pulse width were 48.8 kW and 195 ns FWHM. The beam quality factors M 2 directed along the a and c axes were 22 and 28, respectively.
Single-mode high-peak-power passively Q-switched diode-pumped Nd:YAG laser
Optics Letters, 1997
We have demonstrated an efficient, compact, passively Q-switched single-mode diode-pumped Nd:YAG laser that uses Cr 4+ :YAG as a saturable absorber. Linear-and ring-cavity configurations were demonstrated. Pulse energies and widths were, respectively, 1.5 mJ and 3.9 ns for the linear cavity and 2.1 mJ and 12 ns for the ring cavity.
High average power 1314 nm Nd:YLF laser, passively Q-switched with V:YAG
Optics Letters, 2013
A 1314 nm Nd:YLF laser was designed and operated both CW and passively Q-switched. Maximum CW output of 10.4 W resulted from 45.2 W of incident pump power. Passive Q-switching was obtained by inserting a V:YAG saturable absorber in the cavity. The oscillator delivered a maximum of 825 μJ energy per pulse, with a pulse duration of 135 ns at a pulse repetition frequency of 6.3 kHz, effectively delivering 5.2 W of average power.
High-peak-power passively Q-switched Nd:YAG laser at 946 nm
Applied Physics B, 2008
We demonstrate a high-peak-power quasi-continuous-wave diode-pumped passive Q-switched Nd:YAG laser at 946 nm. We make a thorough comparison of the output performance between the saturable absorbers of InGaAs quantum wells (QWs) and a Cr 4+ :YAG crystal. Experimental results reveal that the saturable absorber of InGaAs QWs is superior to the Cr 4+ :YAG crystal because of the low nonsaturable losses and leads to a pulse energy of 330 µJ with a peak power greater than 11 kW.
