Social innovation in the Hungarian business sphere

The development of society in various ways is central to social innovation and corporate social responsibility (CSR). CSR involves deliberate acts of companies, and can lead to social innovation either in themselves or through cooperation with other social stakeholders. The aims of this study are: (1) to describe the concepts of corporate social innovation and CSR, focusing on the relationship between them, and to introduce the features of social innovation in Hungary and (2) to use quantitative and qualitative research methods to investigate how integration of the business sector and a broad layer of society can promote social innovation in a disadvantaged region. The empirical survey indicates that social innovation is needed for economic development of a region, since such innovations are capable of helping the business activity recover in disadvantaged areas.

Social Innovation: Sign of the Times?

The aim of this article is to predict development trends based on social innovations. It introduces the concept of social innovations explaining the reasons of social changes marking transmodernity. By analyzing European Union policies in the fi eld, it provides grounds for practical implementation of social innovation projects. The results of the mapping exercise of social innovations in Croatia is presented in order to provide analytical data based on which public policies in the fi eld of social innovation may be designed. This is matched with theoretical knowledge on social changes and social innovations as to offer thoughts on future development trends.

The article points to the processes of change in the economy that seek to take account of human subjectivity and its needs in economic, social and civic terms. As part of these changes, social innovations are used as innovations aimed at improving the quality of people's lives in organizational and relational terms. Opposing the systemic approach of prosociality comes the concept of the social economy as a segment of social market economy that pursues social objectives within the framework of economic activity. Social enterprises are a component of the social economy. The aim of the article is to point to social innovation in the context of social enterprises. The phenomenon of innovation, social innovation and social enterprises has been described. Social enterprises constitute an important element of the landscape of the economy, in terms of the socio-economic order, taking into account the factor of social innovation.

innovation is without doubts one of the key production factors. the aim of this paper is to analyze the recent development in the field of social innovation and, more importantly the practical impact of this concept to society. as we may observe, currently, the cheap and highly developed information technology in our open society is readily available to broad population. it is, therefore, ready to be used in both technical and social fields. the easiness with which the technology is now used may bring in some social patterns that are reflecting in communication and human conduct. many developed countries have nowadays problems of funding the essential public needs like running public services or building necessary infrastructure. after touching on the concept of public private partnership and its feasibility our paper deals with explanation of the new notions: the Big Society recently introduced in the uK and Collective impact developed in the uS. we also look in their impact on creating opportunities for authorized and legal reduction of services to citizens in some developed countries.

Innovation is a key element of economic development and a key factor in social processes. Technological and economic innovations cannot respond to all social challenges. Social innovations in Slovakia: success versus failure

The objective of this paper is to present the factors that were the key differences between successful and failed social innovations in a co-creation initiative in Slovakia. Out of 33 implemented projects in this initiative we analyzed 21 final reports for the co-creation projects and selected 5 cases for an in-depth analysis. With 5 representatives of the co-creation projects we conducted structured interview, based on methodology of LIPSE project (Learning from Innovation in Public Sector Environments, project that focuses on identifying drivers and barriers of social innovation and its outcome). Generally, most of the failures are connected with the role of the innovation initiator and the neutral or even negative attitudes of local governments to any co-creation initiative due to overloaded schedules of public servants. Our analysis shows also other factors that account for social innovation failure.
