Demotivation is a negative counterpart of motivation that affects student learning process and outcome. The present study attempted to determine the demotivating factors in learning a second language in Ghana using the Chinese language as a case study. A structured survey questionnaire data were collected from two hundred students learning Chinese at the University of Ghana to achieve the stated objective. The study identified the significant demotivation factors affecting students learning a second language: Teacher competence and teaching style, learning materials, crowded classroom, high competition in acquiring scholarship to China, less chance to get Chinese Ambassador Scholarship Award, and lack of self-confidence and experience of failure. Teachers should use more appropriate textbooks to improve their teaching skills. Also, students should be motivated to learn and participate in classroom activities to form lasting reminiscences.
. Motivational Factors in Chinese Language Learning
Learning a new language can be a challenging but rewarding experience, and for many individuals, the Chinese language presents a unique set of difficulties and complexities. The present study aimed to investigate the motivational factors that impact the process of learning the Chinese language among non-native speakers. The study employed a questionnaire to survey 104 Chinese language learners from different countries. According to the study results, six factors were identified as motivators for learners of Chinese, which include the desire for career and economic advancement, the aspiration to become a global citizen, the wish to communicate and connect with Chinese people, the pursuit of selfsatisfaction and self-efficacy, and the inclination to integrate with Chinese cultures. Moreover, the study found that video materials, particularly Chinese cinema and drama, play a crucial role in facilitating proficiency in the Chinese language. Overall, the results suggest that foreign language learners exhibit a positive attitude towards the Chinese language and are willing to continue learning it in the future .

Motivation is one of the important factors that influences English learning achievement. So in order to help the students to maintain a proper strength in English learning motivation is very necessary for the teachers in the daily teaching procedure. This paper discusses the issue of motivation in foreign language learning in four main sections .It starts with the background information .Then it is concerned with the motivation issues in EFL in China, and finally, tries to provide some advices for teachers to enhance students' motivation in English teaching for non-English majors at tertiary level.

Motivation is among the leading predictors of second language learning. This study investigated the influence of motivation on second language (English) acquisition in primary school students. The study used a qualitative research approach, with case study design as the strategy. The researcher employed purposive sampling to conduct interviews with three primary school English language teachers. Besides, documentary reviews were used to collect suitable data for the study. The findings indicated that motivation is a paramount factor for Second language acquisition (SLA), however, cultivation of motivation to primary school students is a hindrance to most teachers as capacity to use varied experience, student's efforts, and the learning environment obscuring cultivation of effective motivation. In conclusion, for effective SLA, teachers should develop their skills at fostering motivation to SL learners.
Motivation and learning strategies on foreign language acquisition

An imperative to global competence in 21st century education is learning foreign languages. This descriptive study identifies learners' motivation models and language strategies related to acquisition of Mandarin as Foreign Language. It covers 279 Foreign Language learners focused on Spoken Mandarin as actual respondents, utilizing a random sampling technique. The conceptual framework presents correlations on two major variables: learning motivation models-Gardner and Dornyei, and learning strategies-direct and indirect, effective to foreign language learning. Employing surveyquestionnaire as the main tool, it tested null hypotheses that learners' learning motivation and strategy have no significant relationship on Foreign Language learning acquisition; and have no significant difference on Foreign Language learning acquisition. Statistical tools utilized include frequency count, percentage, weighted mean, standard deviation, and Spearman Rho correlation analysis. Results revealed that respondents are more motivated with respect to models, while strategies are apparently very effective. Learning motivation models and learning strategies are of average relationship, posting moderate correlation. In conclusion, it gives affirmation that learning a new language can be very effective with proper motivation, supported by the application of wide-ranging learning strategies.
The Importance of Motivation in Second Language Acquisition
According to Rost (2006) motivation has been called the " neglected heart " of language teaching. As teachers, we often forget that all of our learning activities are filtered through our students' motivation. In this sense, students control the flow of the classroom. Without student motivation, there is no pulse; there is no life in the class. When we learn to incorporate direct approaches to generating student motivation in our teaching, we will become happier and more successful teachers. The issue of motivation, particularly in EFL settings, is so important that other considerations about teaching methodology seem to pale in comparison. It is important to think about motivation as the essence of language teaching because of the stark realities of learning English for most of our students.
Second Language Motivation; The Role of Teachers in Learners' Motivation
The purpose of this paper is to explore the main body of literature on motivation in second language learning. It aims to discuss the major theories of motivation on the influence of teachers on learners' motivation and to explain how teachers can generate and maintain motivation in their teaching practices. Based on the vast body of research on motivation, this paper suggests that teachers have a huge responsibility to initiate learners' motivation and keep it alive throughout the learning process. Moreover, it synthesizes the conclusions drawn from the literature on motivation conducted to identify strategies and principles appropriate to be used by teachers in their classrooms.
MOTIVATION AS A PROMOTING DETERMINANT IN SECOND AND FOREIGN LANGUAGE CLASSROOM: A REVIEW
Motivation plays a significant role in the rate and success of second and foreign language learning in general, and in classroom language learning in particular. This paper overviews research on motivation as a promoting determinant in second and foreign language classroom and deals with the meaning of motivation, theories of motivation and explains how teachers can generate and maintain motivation in second language classroom. Research on motivation for second language learning has shown that teachers should be aware of their actions and behaviours in classroom because it is very likely that teachers' actions can demotivate learners.
