The state of Lopholejeunea sikkimensis (Lejeuneaceae; Marchantiophyta) in Western Himalaya, India (original) (raw)

Lejeuneaceae (Marchantiophyta) of the Western Ghats, India

abpa.ektf.hu

The present study reports 76 species of Lejeuneaceae present in the Western Ghats. Among these three species viz. Archilejeunea abbreviata (Mont.) Vanden Berghen, Otolejeunea semperiana (Gottsche et Steph.) Grolle and Tuyamaella angulistipa (Steph.) Schust. & Kachroo are new to India. One species viz., Lejeunea cocoes Mitt., is a new record for Southern India and three species viz., Archilejeunea minutilobula Udar & U.S.Awasthi, Cololejeunea appressa (A.Evans) Benedix and Cololejeunea udarii G. Asthana & S.C. Srivast. are new records for Kerala.

Archilejeunea minutilobula Udar et U. S. Awasthi (Lejeuneaceae-Marchantiophyta) New to Gangetic plains of India

Plant Science Today, 2015

During an investigation on the bryophytes of Gangetic plains, Archilejeunea minutilobula Udar et U. S. Awasthi has been identified at Farakka, district Murshidabad (West Bengal) which is a new addition to the Gangetic plains and West Bengal. Previously it was known from South India (Mettupalayam, Mahabaleshwar) only. The taxon belongs to subfamily Ptychanthoideae of the family Lejeuneaceae (order Jungermanniales). Family Lejeuneaceae is underexplored in the Gangetic plain region and discovery of this species from this region after five decades since its inception is very significant.

New And Neglected Morphological Features in the Taxonomy of Asian Lejeunea (Marchantiophyta)

Polish Botanical Journal, 2014

The infrageneric classification of the large genus Lejeunea Lib. is poorly understood due to the lack of stable morphological characters characterizing supraspecific groups. Phenetic analysis of 26 morphological features of 31 Asian Lejeunea species separated two main species clusters based on the number of superior central cells at underleaf bases. The number of superior central cells had not previously been utilized in the classification of Lejeunea and appears to be new and stable morphological feature within this genus. The presence of surface wax was confirmed in L. flava (Sw.) Nees and was newly recorded in L. mimula Hürl. and L. tuberculosa Steph. We suggest that wax ornamentation may be a useful taxonomic feature at species level in Lejeunea.

The genus Drepanolejeunea (Spruce) Schiffn. (Lejeuneaceae; Marchantiophyta) in the Western Ghats with special reference to Kerala

Plant Science Today, 2020

Diversity of the genus Drepanolejeunea (Spruce) Schiffn. of the family Lejeuneaceae in Kerala is discussed in detail. So far, 8 species have been reported from the Western Ghats, of which 6 occur in Kerala. This paper provides detailed descriptions of 5 of the species collected from Kerala during the present survey. Among these, Drepanolejeunea erecta (Steph.) Mizut. is new to the Western Ghats, D. fleischeri (Steph.) Grolle & Zhu, D. pentadactyla (Mont.) Steph. and D. ternatensis (Gottsche) Steph. are new records for Kerala.

Taxonomic notes on Drepanolejeunea pleiodictya (Marchantiophyta, Lejeuneaceae), a little-known Asiatic species

Polish Botanical Journal, 2015

Drepanolejeunea pleiodictya Herzog (Lejeuneaceae), a rare and poorly known species from Java and Malaysia, was newly discovered in tropical montane forest in southern Thailand. It is distinguished by the ventral margin of the leaf lobe being usually irregularly dentate with one large tooth, the apex of the lobule having a straight or slightly curved tooth, ocelli 3−4(−5) seriate in the leaf lobe separated by 2−5 ordinary leaf cells, and gynoecia usually with a single pycnolejeuneoid innovation. This species is described and illustrated in detail, and its diagnostic characters and geographical distribution are briefly discussed.

Lejeuneaceae (Marchantiophyta) of Sicike-cike Natural Park, North Sumatra Indonesia

Lejeuneaceae (Marchantiophyta) is still poorly known in Sumatra. This research was conducted to explore the diversity of Lejeuneaceae in Sicike-cike Natural Park, North Sumatra, Indonesia. The species of Lejeuneaceae was observed based on the specimens collected along trails in the study site. The study reveals the occurence of 29 species, which are: Acrolejeunea (1 species), Cheilolejeunea (5 species), Cololejeunea (2 species), Colura (1 species), Drepanolejeunea (6 species), Lejeunea (6 species), Leptolejeunea (1 species), Lopholejeunea (4 species), Metalejeunea (1 species), Thysananthus (2 species). Eight species of these are newly reported for Sumatra. Those are Cololejeunea stephanii, Drepanolejeunea levicornua, D. ternatensis, D. thwaitesiana, D. tricornua, Lejeunea obscura, Leptolejeunea foliicola, and Lopholejeunea herzogiana. An identification key to the species of Lejeuneaceae from Sicike-cike Natural Park North Sumatra is provided.

Distribution and Habitat of the Malaysian Species of Lejeunea (Marchantiophyta: Lejeuneaceae), with Description of Lejeunea Tamaspocsii Sp. Nov

Polish Botanical Journal, 2013

We analyze the geographical and elevational ranges and the habitats of 30 species and two varieties of Lejeunea Lib. recorded from Malaysia. The greatest diversity of Lejeunea in Malaysia is found on Mt. Kinabalu with 27 species. The majority of the species are Malesian in distribution with a high number (8) belonging to the West Malesian element. Widely distributed species are often autoicous and produce spores freely; those with narrow distributions are more often dioicous and rarely produce spores. Dispersal of dioicous species seems to be promoted by asexual reproduction, being more common in wide-ranging dioicous species than in narrow-ranging ones. Endemism is 10% with three species being known only from Mt. Kinabalu. Range sizes of species decrease towards higher elevation and endemic species occur exclusively in the mountains. About half of the species occur in the lower montane rainforest belt, which is the elevational zone with the highest diversity of Lejeunea in Malaysia...

The systematic position of puzzling Sino-Himalayan Lophocolea sikkimensis (Lophocoleaceae, Marchantiophyta) is identified

PhytoKeys

Lophocolea sikkimensis, a little-known Sino-Himalayan species, was collected in North Vietnam and its taxonomic position was identified by molecular genetic techniques. The species is characterized by generally narrowly pointed leaves, which are not seen in other representatives of Lophocoleaceae. We found that it belongs to the recently described genus Cryptolophocolea, although it is clearly morphologically dissimilar to other members of the genus. We propose a corresponding nomenclature combination: Cryptolophocolea sikkimensis comb. nov. This species is the only one in its genus with a predominantly Sino-Himalayan distribution; the vast majority of congeners are distributed in the Southern Hemisphere (mostly in Australasia). Reports of this species in Vietnam further confirm the close phytogeographic relationships of the flora of northern Indochina with those of the Sino-Himalayas and suggest that this species is found in other parts of the Hoang Lien Range and the southern Heng...
