Centaurea jankae and C. trinervia (Asteraceae): new taxa for the Bulgarian flora (original) (raw)

New locality of Centaurea pichleri (Asteraceae) in Bulgaria

2018

Centaurea pichleri Boiss. belongs to subgenus Cyanus of Asteraceae and has a very complex taxonomy. It is distributed in Turkey (mainly in Central Anatolia), Greece, Bulgaria and Lebanon. In the Bulgarian flora the species has a conservation value being protected by the national Biodiversity Act and listed in the Red List of vascular plants in Bulgaria. During field investigations in the spring of 2016 a new locality of the species in Toundzha hilly country (SE Bulgaria) was found. The new population of C. pichleri is in a good state and numbers over then 1000 individuals. From the spatial location of individuals it can be assumed that the reproduction of the species in this locality combined vegetative and seed model. In the new locality, no threats to the species' population were registrated.

Centaurea wagenitziana (Asteraceae: Centaureinae), a new species from the Eastern Balkans

Phytologia Balcanica, 2009

Centaurea wagenitziana Bancheva & Kit Tan from SE Bulgaria and NW Turkey is described as a species new to science. Its chromosome number of 2n = 30 is a first report. It closely resembles C. amplifolia with which it had been misidentified; the latter is endemic to the Peloponnese in southern Greece and is lectotypified in this paper.

The Balkan endemic Colymbada finazzeri (Centaureinae, Asteraceae) in the Bulgarian flora

2006

Colymbada finazzeri is a Balkan endemic, with only one population in Bulgaria in the Zemen Gorge, Kyustendil district (in the floristic region of the Valley of River Strouma, northern part). The species was considered extinct in the course of several decades, until it was found again in 2004. The present article reconfirms the distribution of C. finazzeri in Bulgaria. It also produces data on the taxonomy, morphology, biology of reproduction, and ecology of the species, as well as on the status of its population.

Taxonomic revision and conservation status of Centaurea davidovii (sect. Lepteranthus, Asteraceae)

2010

Centaurea davidovii (sect. Lepteranthus) is a Bulgarian endemic species distributed in meadows and pastures only in the floristic region of Western and Central Balkan Range. Despite the fact that the taxon is represented by few and very fragmented populations, it is included neither in the Biological Diversity Act of Bulgaria, nor in the Red List of Bulgarian Vascular Plants (Petrova & Vladimirov 2009), because of its uncertain taxonomic status. The present biosystematic study is related to the work on the last, 12 th volume of Flora of R Bulgaria and comprises data about the morphological variation, pollen morphology and structure, karyology and distribution patterns of C. davidovii and its closest relative C. nervosa. The population and conservation status of C. davidovii is discussed.

Two new species of Centaurea (Asteraceae) from Turkey

Ann. Bot. Fennici, 2002

Two new species of Centaurea L. (Asteraceae) from Turkey are described and illustrated. Centaurea cankiriense A. Duran & H. Duman (sect. Cheirolepis (Boiss.) O. Hoffm.) is restricted to the steppes of Dumanlı Daâ (A4: Atkaracalar-Çankırı). Centaurea antalyense H. Duman & A. Duran (sect. Phalolepis (Cass.) DC.) occurs in forest and macchia in the south of Akseki district (C3: Antalya).

Centaurea species in Turkey (A): Centaurea odyssei Wagenitz (Asteraceae) in Kazdagi (Mt. Ida) National Park

International Journal of Biodiversity Science & Management, 2005

Kazdagi (Mt. Ida: 1774 m) is in northwestern Turkey. The rock type is mainly schist, and the soil is brown forest soil without lime. For these reasons, Kazdagi is one of the most important floristic areas in Turkey. With regard to genetic resources, this area is of major importance for in situ conservation of plant genetic diversity. Centaurea odyssei Wagenitz is a threatened very local endemic species, growing only in three small areas on Kazdagi. These populations are under heavy grazing stress. Morphological, anatomical and palynological studies are described and autecological and conservation aspects of the species are discussed.

Taxonomic revision and population status of Psephellus marschallianus (Centaureinae, Asteraceae) in Bulgaria

bio.bas.bg

Psephellus marschallianus (≡ Centaurea marschalliana) is a rare species in the Bulgarian flora, attached to a specific habitat of subcontinental peripannonain shrub communities, and distributed in two floristic regions: Northeast Bulgaria and the Black Sea Coast (Northern). This study offers comments on the taxonomy of genus Psephellus, as well as on the taxonomy, morphology, karyology, ecology, population and conservation status of the species.
