Purpose – This paper aims to measure the perceptions of librarians about information literacy (IL) instruction, their current IL practices and the problems they face while offering IL instructional programs in public and private sector university libraries in Islamabad, the capital city of Pakistan. Design/methodology/approach – A quantitative research design was adopted, and a survey was carried out for this study to collect the data through an online questionnaire for the university librarians. All librarians (a total of 120) were approached to collect the data, of whom 92 (76.6%) responded to the survey. Findings – The findings reveal that the librarians working in the university libraries of Islamabad are aware of the significance of IL instruction to fulfil the information needs of their library users. A majority of the librarians indicated having adequate skills to offer IL instruction. Moreover, the majority of the librarians are offering IL instruction to users at their respective universities. However, some of the barriers affecting IL instruction programs were also reported including the absence of IL instruction courses in the library and information science (LIS) curriculum, a shortage of trained library professional staff to provide IL instruction, a lack of commitment among librarians for IL instruction, a lack of training opportunities for librarians and a lack of interest from library users. These obstacles have a negative effect on IL instruction in the university libraries of Islamabad. Therefore, this study suggests that librarians are needed to take several necessary steps to overcome these obstacles to achieve the best results in IL instruction programs. Originality/value – This study presents a picture of the status of IL skills, current practices and barriers to offering IL instruction in the university libraries of Islamabad. This research bridges the gap in the existing literature and will help to create awareness about the importance of IL skills among LIS professionals in Pakistan. Moreover, the findings of this study will help encourage librarians for the enhancement of IL instruction services in university libraries of Islamabad in particular and Pakistan in general. The investigating of information literacy librarian of Public universities in Kerman
The purpose of this study was to investigating the information literacy librarian of public universities in Kerman. Information literacy "is a set of skills necessary for search, retrieve and effective use of various information sources. The study was descriptive-survey. The population consists of 93 librarians of payamenoor university, Shahidbahonar University and university of medical sciences. A data collection instrument is included researcher-made questionnaires. Data analysis included Test t, chi-square test and ANOVA analyses and SPSS software (package of Spss / pc + + ver21). The results of this study show the most familiarity the study population belonging to the periodicals. According the results, librarians of Shahidbahonar University and university of medical sciences were more dominant in the software library. The results of this study show there is not a significant relationship between information literacy and gender. But there is a significant relationship between information literacy with age, degree and field of study. According to the findings holding training courses for information literacy skills, equipping the libraries with suitable hardware and software, personal motivation of librarians to keep their information literacy skills updated, and official attention of libraries and universities to their staff information literacy level is the factors that involved in information literacy level of study population librarians.
The development of societies depends upon the quality of their workforces. Contemporary societies, in comparison with past societies, now need workforces with different qualities. The best way to prepare for a future characterized by constant change is to equip the individuals which make up these societies with skills which will help them to keep up with these changes. The most important of these skills are life-long learning skills and information literacy skills. Individuals who have information literacy skills are people who are more likely to be equipped for all kinds of change in their personal and professional lives. In equipping the individuals who make up society with these skills, the educational institutions, libraries and librarians have an important role to play.
Information Literacy Course – The Perception of Students and Professors: University of Zadar Case
Since the academic year 2011/12 University of Zadar’s Department of Information Sciences and the University library have jointly organized an elective course - Information Literacy. The purpose of this research was to examine students’ and professors’ opinions concerning the information literacy competencies represented in the Information Literacy course curriculum, and the possibility of future collaboration between professors and librarians to help students gain information literacy competencies in the context of subject courses. Students and professors from different departments participated in the surveys and interviews. The results show that both the professors and the students are aware of the students’ insufficient competencies and that the professors consider these competencies to be important. The students believe that the Information Literacy course could help them with their coursework. The professors are willing to collaborate with librarians in order to improve their own courses. It can be concluded that the Information Literacy course itself is insufficient - but can be a significant first step in developing cooperative programs of information literacy education.

PurposeThe purpose of the study is to highlight the need for academic librarians to incorporate effective methodologies in their delivery of information literacy instruction.Design/methodology/approachThe researchers conducted a qualitative research using a case study approach. A nonprobability or purposive sampling method was employed in this research to select five participants. Semistructured interviews and observation were used to garner data from the sample.FindingsThe findings of the study revealed that the support required by distance education and face-to-face students is typically the same. The purpose of the paper is to define the place and the role of the Information Literacy teaching courses organized at academic libraries to instruct the students to perceive the curricula included into academic programs, and reviews the issues related with the teaching of these types of courses within the institutional framework in order to enhance and optimize the library-information services to community members, to stay abreast with the requirements of the modern era and to arm the library users with necessary information searching methods and tools. Design / methodology / approach. Main part of the research conveys the generalized experiences covered in related literature and open source materials, statistics retrieved from annual reports of the ADA University Library, and also conclusions derived from communications with field librarians. On the course of the research it is concluded that only one library and/or the librarian is not enough to carry out the task of teaching information literacy to students and sometimes to Faculty. All librarians should be involved in these library activities through self-development and lifelong learning. Research limitations / implications. Comparing the results of the Information Literacy activities in local environment would enrich the research output, but unfortunately this type of activity is not widely spread in academic libraries of Azerbaijan. Further implementation and application of the results of the current study is recommended. Originality / value. In terms of describing Information Literacy activities in Azerbaijan, it would be interesting source for librarians and information professionals. This papers also provides valuable sources of information on basic skills and knowledge required to understand the essence of Information Literacy.

Survey on information literacy competencies of library science students at the Department was realized by the online questionnaire for self-assessment that was developed on the basis of Permutation Model Components with the purpose to obtain insight in student's perception of their information literacy competencies, to detect to what degree students improve their information literacy competencies and confidence during studies and what possible difficulties they face in this process. This is particularly important considering that there is no separate information literacy course adopted in Departments curricula but the information literacy related content is offered and taught in different courses. Analysis expectedly reveals that in general students feel confident in their information literacy competencies, that their information literacy competencies progressively improve during their studies, but also that students consider that the introduction of a stand-alone information literacy course would greatly contribute to the simpler and faster improvement of their information literacy competencies.
