Reading Motivation and Reading Comprehension Ability of The Students at Islamic University of Malang

This article aims at knowing whether there is significant correlation between reading motivation and reading comprehension ability of the third semester students of English Language Teaching Department of University of Islam Malang or not. The research design in this study is quantitative research in the form of correlation design. The subject of this study was 33 students. The researcher developed two research instruments; a questionnaire to measure students’ reading motivation and a test of reading to measure reading comprehension ability. The finding indicated that there was a positive correlation between students’ reading motivation and their reading comprehension ability because the coefficient correlation obtained showed on the table was 0.497. It can be concluded that the correlation between those two variables was on moderate correlation. The Effect of EFL Learners' Perception and Motivation on Their Reading Achievement at ABA Bumigora Mataram

This research is about the effects of EFL learners’ perception and motivation on reading achievement. It investigates the symptoms that affect the learners’ achievement in English reading text. Their achievements in English reading text are affected by Perception and motivation that contain a very broad sense relates to intern and extern, and this becomes great intention for me to do analysis, whether it affects the learners’ achievement in English reading text or not. And relates to motivation, there are many things that the learners must consider when thinking about what type of motivation affect the students’ achievement. Each student has his / her own experiences that make him / her different. Some of the differences to consider are background, economy and special educational needs. These also become great reason to see the effect to the students’ achievement in English reading text. This research was conducted at ABA Bumigora Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara. The method used was field survey by distributing questionnaires and investigating some students to validate the result in the questionnaires. The samples were all of the students at ABA Bumigora Mataram in academic year 2011/2013. The research design used was mix method consists of quantitative and qualitative approach. The data were analyzed statistically using regression analysis supported by SPSS 16. The findings show that the students’ achievement are affected by perception and motivation. The regression analysis shows that reading motivation has correlation value between perception and motivation with the correlation value= 0.455, and r Value= 0.008. The Correlation between Students’ Reading Motivation and Reading Comprehension at Eighth Grade Students Level

The purposes of this research were to find out: (1) there was a correlation between students’ reading motivation and reading comprehension of students at eighth grade level in Palembang, (2) How much motivation contributed to reading comprehension of students at eighth grade level in Palembang. The main objectives of this research was to find out whether or not there was a statically significant correlation between the eighth grade students’ reading motivation (independent/predictor variable) and reading comprehension achievement (dependent/criterion variable) at SMP Negeri 1 Buay Madang Timur. This research applied correlational study with descriptive method. The population was all of the Eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Buay Madang Timur, with the total number of the students 208 students. The Relationship Between EFL Reading Comprehension Skills and Attitude Towards Reading Among Preparatory Stage Pupils

The aim of this research was to investigate the relationship between EFL reading comprehension skills and attitude towards reading among preparatory stage pupils. The participants were forty pupils in second year from Al-Shaheed Ahmed Hamid Abdel Dayem – a preparatory school at Al-Menofia Governorate. The participants of the study were divided into three groups, two experimental groups (group one was consisted of ten pupils and the second group was also consisted of ten pupils and the control group was consisted of twenty pupils. The instruments of the research were a pre-comprehension reading test , a post-comprehension reading test, a proficiency rating scale for correcting the tests and a scale for assessing the pupils attitude towards reading. Results of the research revealed that there is a strong correlation relationship between the EFL reading comprehension skills and attitude towards reading.

The Correlation Among Reading Habits, Reading Motivation, and Reading Comprehension of the Eleventh Grade Students of Sma Negeri 10 Palembang

The effect of comprehension is determined not only by whether or not the text makes sense but also by the information it contains. The purpose of this research was to determine whether or not there was a correlation among class XI students' reading habits, reading motivation, and reading comprehension at SMA Negeri 10 Palembang. 130 students from classes XI MIA 5, XI MIA 6, and XI MIA 7 were chosen using the purposive sampling technique. The correlational method applies to this study. Questionnaires and tests have been data collection instruments. To analyze the data, the writer used Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality testing, SEM-PLS for correlation analysis, with SmartPLS version 3.2.9. The latent variable correlation results for the significance of reading habits and reading comprehension in students show the correlation value (0,989) was higher than r-table (0,172). This means that the significant value of correlation was included in the very high category, and the results of the latent variable correlation on the significance of students' reading motivation and reading comprehension show that the correlation value (1,000) was higher than the r-table (0,172). This means that the significant value of correlation was included in the very high category. The correlation coefficient was found to be significant. It also implies there was a statistically significant correlation among their reading habits, reading motivation, and reading comprehension. The null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, as determined by the writer. In conclusion, this result is explained by the fact that there was a significant relationship among reading habits, reading motivation, and reading comprehension.

Pupils’ Reading Motivation and Reading Literacy Level

Pupils can read better if they are motivated. This study aimed to determine the reading motivation of pupils in terms of challenges, curiosity, enjoyment, and recognition; to find the respondents' level of reading literacy; and to determine the significant relationship between pupils' reading motivation and reading literacy. The study was conducted in Lagonglong Central School in the Division of Misamis Oriental. A total of three hundred fifty-seven (357) pupils participated in this study through purposive universal sampling. An adapted and modified questionnaire was distributed to the respondents to gather the needed data on reading motivation while documentary analysis was utilized for the reading literacy of the learners. The study utilized descriptive correlational research design with the following statistical treatments used for the analysis and interpretation of data: Mean, Standard Deviation, Frequency, Percentage and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. Results showed that pupils' reading motivation on challenges, curiosity, enjoyment, and recognition were at a high level while their level of reading literacy is at Independent level. Moreover, pupils' reading motivation was significantly correlated with reading literacy. It is recommended that teachers, parents, and stakeholders must help one another in implementing reading programs and activities for the pupils so that they will continue to improve their reading motivation and literacy levels.
