The World Health Organization (WHO) defines an adolescent as any person between age 10 and 19 yr. Adolescent girls are backbone of healthy and progressive family and thus future builders of positive health of community. The present study was conducted to know the nutritional awareness of adolescent girls of Mahabubnagar district in Telangana state. The results showed that majority of rural adolescent girls (73%) have moderate nutritional awareness and in urban areas, majority (57%) of the respondents have high nutritional awareness. The nutritional awareness of adolescent girls depends on their education, their father's occupation and mass media exposure. They need school-based nutrition education and thus, interventions should be undertaken to improve the nutritional awareness of adolescent girls in rural areas.

Background: Adolescence is a period with rapid growth drive and demands higher nutrition. Improving Nutritional status of rural adolescent girls becomes the cornerstone of community's nutritional status and target intervention for breaking intergeneration cycle of nutritional deficiencies. The objective of the study was to determine nutritional status and study the demographic factors affecting nutritional status of rural adolescent girls in Dharwad district. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out among 350 adolescent school girls studying in eight high schools in rural area of Dharwad district during July-September 2017. Demographic profile and dietary pattern was obtained. Anthropometric measurement and clinical examination was done. Statistical analysis was done using SSPS package. Results: Study found 14.9% of rural adolescent girls were underweight for their age. Based on BMI, 25.2% of girls were under-nourished and 3.7% were over nourished. Significant relation with age, type of diet and age of menarche was found at p value <0.05. Conclusions: There is high prevalence of under nutrition among adolescent girls and is under nutrition is associated with micronutrient deficiencies like anaemia. There is need to create awareness to improve the nutritional needs of adolescent girls in rural areas.

Background: Adolescence is the transition period between childhood and adulthood where rapid physical, mental, emotional and social development takes place. Adolescent girls are at greatest risk for nutrient deficiency and it badly affects their overall development. With this background this study was conducted to study some aspects of the socio-demographic profile and to assess the nutritional status of adolescent girls by anthropometry in a rural area of a district. Methods: It was a community based cross sectional study conducted during January 2015 to June 2015 in 10 villages of a district. 583 adolescent girls were interviewed using pre designed, pretested questionnaire and anthropometric examination was done. Introduction: Adolescent girls are backbone of healthy and progressive family and thus future builders of positive health of community. To attain healthy reproductive outcome and efficient physical activity nutritional status of adolescent girl is valuable. In India especially in rural area there is high prevalence of malnutrition amongst adolescent girls. Objectives: The objective of the study was to determine the nutritional status of adolescent girls in rural area of Bhopal district and to study the socio-demographic factors affecting the nutritional status of adolescent girls in rural area of Bhopal district. Material & method: A community based cross sectional study was carried out amongst adolescent girls in the age group of 10-19 years. Two Government schools of Ratua village of Bhopal district were selected for study purpose. Study period was from June to August2013.Total 200 adolescent girls were included. Variables included were age, socio-economical status, weight, Height and dietary intake pattern. Statistical analysis: Data was analysed using SPSS version 20 statistical software and Odds ratio and Chi square test was applied to test the strength of association between the variables. Result: Amongst all adolescent girls 69% suffered from under nutrition. Only 31% girls had normal nutritional status. Majority i.e. 87.20% of adolescent girls belonging to the age group of 10-14 years were undernourished Conclusion: Majority of rural adolescent girls were under nourished. There was significant association between socio-economic status (SES) and nutritional status of adolescent girls. Nutritional status has profound effect on health and school performance of adolescent girls.
Existing knowledge of the rural adolescent girls regarding nutrition practices

The study was conducted in Bikaner district. Studies have shown that Bikaner district of Rajasthan is one of the backward desert districts in terms of female education (27.03%) and female health facilities. The marriage age of girls in the district is around 15 years and female by the age of 19-20 years become mother of 3-4 children. The status of women and adolescent girls is miserable. They suffer from anemia and malnutrition. So there is a need to educate the adolescent girls in the district to improve their health status. List of villages having senior secondary Co-education and girl's government schools will be prepared from selected panchayat samities as our respondents are adolescent girls. Two villages from each panchayat samiti will be selected randomly. List of school going and nonschool going adolescent girls of 11-17 years will be procured from school and anganwadi centers /gram panchayat. Fifty girls from each village will be selected randomly having 25 school going and 25 non-school going girls thus comparing the sample of 400 girls.

Nutrition education at school level can provide the knowledge and skills to improve the dietary attitudes and behaviors of the children. The present study was conducted with the objective to assess impact of Nutrition Education Programme on Nutritional Status of Adolescent girls in four welfare hostels. 200 girls in the age group of 13-15 years were enrolled from four residential welfare schools of YSR Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh. Different aspects of nutrition were selected i.e., food, food groups, functions of food, nutritional deficiency disorders. Food intake was calculated using 24 hour recall method. Purpose: Malnutrition status of adolescent girls remains a major public health problem in India. The present study assessed nutritional status, associated factors contributing to malnutrition and their access to health-care services in Dev Bhumi Dwarka district of Gujarat situated in western part of India. Materials and Methods: The study was carried out using descriptive cross-sectional design. A total of 1252 adolescent girls from all four blocks of Dev Bhumi Dwarka district were interviewed by field investigators. The data were collected on socio-demographic characteristics, physical activities, diet, and anthropometry. The WHO classification for body mass index (BMI) was used to assess underweight, overweight, and obesity among adolescent girls. Chi-square analyses were performed to identify significant determinants of under-nutrition. Results: Mean age of the study population was 13.82±2.31. Of the total, around 34% of the adolescent girls were out-of-school. The prevalence of underweight (<-2SD) was 19.6%, 8.9% were overweight, and 2.6% were obese. The mean BMI was 19.77±2.42 kg/m 2 , and height was 149.15 (2.23m 2). In terms of knowledge, almost 79.6% were unaware of irondeficiency anaemia, about 70% were not aware of haemoglobin test, and 44% did not know the benefit of using sanitary napkins. In addition, uptake of nutritional and health services was limited. The study found a statistically significant association of age (p = 0.00), the number of family members (p = 0.016), knowledge (p = 0.05), and use of toilet (0.041) with low-BMI. Conclusion: Existing nutritional interventions need to focus on nutrition, health and hygiene education. It also reinforces a need for implementation research to understand barriers in uptake of health and nutrition services.
