Abstract

EnglishSince the year 2012, a Bill on the privatization of prisons and correctional facilities has been under discussion in the Brazilian House of Representatives. The Bill 3,123/12 is presented as a public measure to solve the existing problem in prisons and correctional systems in Brazil. This research aims to understand, through the Critical Discourse Analysis, the elements of reproduction of the hegemonic discourse on privatization presented in the Bill 3,123/12 and the possible consequences of this neoliberal move in the Brazilian prison and correctional policies. To that end, we used as a theoretical-methodological approach, the Critical Discourse Analysis, based in Norman Fairclough.
