The study was designed to investigate the prevalence and reasons for academic procrastination in public university students. The sample consisted of 200 university students including 155 women and 45 men students from social and natural sciences departments. Academic procrastination and reasons for it were measured by Procrastination Assessment Scale for Students (Solomon & Rothblum, 1984a). Backward linear regression analysis has shown that risk taking, task aversiveness, and decision-making were significant predictors (reasons) for academic procrastination while task aversiveness being strongest predictor with medium level coefficient of regression. It was also revealed that academic procrastination prevails at all three levels of education (MSc, MPhil and PhD). Task aversiveness, time management, laziness, rebellion against control, decision making, and lack of assertion were more common reasons in students of social sciences than natural sciences as shown by significant differences. Overall task aversiveness, fear of failure, dependency, decision making and risk taking were common reasons for indulging into academic procrastination.
An Investigation into the Nature of Academic Procrastination

Academic procrastination is the voluntary delay of the completion of an academic task within the expected or desired time frame despite expecting to be worse off for the delay (Senécal et al. 1995; . It is a dispositional trait that can have particularly serious consequences for students who are required to meet frequent deadlines. Research claims that 80%-95% of college students engage in procrastination (Ellis and Knaus 1977) and about 50% procrastinate in a consistent and problematic fashion (Day et al. 2000), delaying essential school-related activities. Some of the major causes of academic procrastination include fear of failure, inability to complete the task, a lack of time management or study skills, stress, or feeling overwhelmed with their work. This paper discusses the reasons why academic procrastination is a problem, why students procrastinate, and techniques for managing it. Implications for teachers will also be discussed.
Academic Procrastination among Male and Female University and College Students

The present research is aimed to investigate the academic procrastination among male and female university and college students. Effect of some demographic variables like gender, age and education were also explored. Sample consisted of 200 students (100 college students and 100 university students) from different colleges and universities of Islamabad. Their age ranged between 16 to 27 years. Tuckman Procrastination Scale (TPS) (Tuckman, 1991) was used to collect data. Results indicate significant difference on demographic variables of age, gender and education. Specifically, a significant difference is found among males and females on academic procrastination. The results further show that college students tend to procrastinate more than university students. Moreover, there is a significant difference found on academic procrastination between students of age below and above 20 years.

The authors examined the prevalence of and reasons, or excuses, for academic procrastination as a function of gender and academic grade level. In Study 1, a factor analysis of responses by 203 Turkish undergraduate students to an academic procrastination measure provided evidence of reliability and validity for the revised scale. In Study 2, 784 students (363 women, 421 men; M age = 20.6 years, SD age = 1.74 years) completed the validated Turkish Procrastination Assessment Scale-Students. The results were that 52% of students self-reported frequent academic procrastination, with male students reporting more frequent procrastination on academic tasks than female students. Significantly more female students than male students reported greater academic procrastination because of fear of failure and laziness; male students reported more academic procrastination as a result of risk taking and rebellion against control than did female students.

Today, academic procrastination is a prevalent issue that negatively impacts students' academic performance and well-being. This paper presents a correlational study aimed at exploring the relationship between academic procrastination and academic satisfaction among college students. The research included 800 college students from various Government degree colleges in the Kashmir Division, representing different genders and academic streams. The participants were chosen using the method of stratified random sampling. The data were analyzed using correlation analysis to examine the associations between these variables. This study utilized an Academic Procrastination Scale by Gupta and Bashir (2018) and a self-constructed Academic Satisfaction questionnaire, administered ethically in a real classroom setting. The data were analyzed using descriptive & inferential statistics, and correlation analysis to examine the associations between the two constructs. These techniques were performed using SPSS version 26 to thoroughly examine the dataset. Finally, the findings show that there are significant differences between gender and academic streams when it comes to academic procrastination and academic satisfaction among college students. This means that male and female students, as well as students in different academic streams (i.e., arts, science and others), experience varying levels of procrastination and satisfaction with their academic performance. Moreover, this study aims to provide valuable insights for educators, counselors, and administrators in developing targeted interventions to promote productive academic behaviors and enhance student satisfaction with their educational experiences.

Gender Difference in Procrastination Among University Students

Procrastination is the act of delaying an activity unnecessarily, and individuals experience extreme anxiety when they begin to think about it, such as a late submission and pressure to complete the work or assignment. Since previous research did not fully address the impact of gender on procrastination, the purpose of this study is to determine whether there is a correlation between gender and procrastination. Also, to compare the procrastination levels of male and female students from a public university in Selangor. This study's data were collected via a questionnaire utilising the Procrastination Scale by Lay (1986) with a 5-Likert scale. This survey's sample consists of 51 students (25 male and 26 female students) enrolled in various courses at the university. This study's data were analysed using correlational analysis and the t-test. Students demonstrate a moderate level of procrastination, and it was determined that males procrastinate more frequently than females. In this study, the limitations and improvements are discussed.

Procrastination is a very common and becomes a problem among students nowadays. Academic Procrastination is the unremitting or intermittent postponement of educational activities. This paper focuses on different aspects of procrastination among the student population in their academics.
