2014, Novon: A Journal for Botanical Nomenclature
Two new species, Centaurea kamyara-appendages of the phyllaries and achenes (Garcianensis Ranjbar & Negaresh and C. bavegehensis Jacas et al., 2006). Common characters of the species Ranjbar & Negaresh, collected from Kermanshah of this group include: (1) the Jacea pollen type, (2) a Province in western Iran are described and illustrat-lateral hilum (used by Dittrich [1968] as a diagnostic ed. Both are assigned to Centaurea L. sect. character), and (3) sterile peripheral florets without Cynaroides Boiss. ex Walp. (Asteraceae, Cardueae) staminodes (Wagenitz & Hellwig, 1996, 2000). The on the basis of the racemose synflorescences, the Jacea group includes 18 sections of Centaurea: adaxial stem leaves decurrent, the subglobose to section Jacea (Mill.) DC., section Cheirolepis (Boiss.) ovoid involucres, and the phyllary appendages O. Hoffm., section Rhizocalathium Tzvelev, section triangular to ovate or orbicular, not decurrent, usually Grossheimia (Sosn. & Takht.) Dittrich, section ciliate and ending in a firm spine or spinule. The new Chartolepis (Cass.) DC., section Phaeopappus (DC.) species are closely related to C. regia Boiss. subsp. O. Hoffm., section Cynaroides Boiss. ex Walp., regia, but C. kamyaranensis differs by its median section Paraphysis (DC.) Wagenitz, section Microappendages being narrowly triangular and 17-21 3 lophus (Cass.) DC., section Pseudoseridia Wagenitz, 10-11 mm, with fewer cilia on each side, subresection Mesocentron (Cass.) DC., section Calcitrapa flexed, and white flowers. Centaurea bavegehensis is DC., section Tetramorphaea (DC.) Boiss., section distinguished by its phyllaries being densely lanate Pteracantha Wagenitz, section Melanoloma (Cass.) and tomentose, with the appendages concealing a DC., section Pluraosipappus (Czerep.
