Introduction: Exclusive breastfeeding is the simplest and healthiest infant feeding method that, directly or by extraction, uses only breast milk with the exception to drops or syrups containing vitamins, mineral supplements or medicines. This practice helpprevents malnutrition among toddlers and provide essential dietary values for subsequent growth and development, especially in the first 6 months. However, Mataram has the lowest coverage of exclusive breastfeeding in West Nusa Tenggara province in 2018. This exposure increased by 70.30% from 2017-2018, but has not achieved the 80% national target. The low coverage was caused by mothers’ inadequate knowledge. Child health problems in Indonesia are affected by the high infant mortality rate (IMR). One of the reasons for the high infant mortality rate in Indonesia is the low level of breastfeeding immediately after birth (initiation of breastfeeding) and exclusive breastfeeding. In line with the 2030 sustainable development goals (SDGs), breastfeeding is one of the first steps for a human being to get a healthy and prosperous life. Unfortunately, not everyone knows this. In several developed and developing countries including Indonesia, many carrier mothers do not breastfeed exclusively. It was found in Indonesia that almost nine out of ten mothers had given breast milk (ASI), but the IDAI study found that only 49.8 percent gave exclusive breastfeeding for six months as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). The research objective was to describe the mother's knowledge of exclusive breastfeeding. This type of research is analytic observational with a case control research design (case control). Subjects consisted of cases and controls with a ratio of 1:1. The sample consisted of 74 cases and 74 controls. The case sample is mothers who have babies aged 6 to 9 months and give exclusive breastfeeding and the control sample is other mothers who give non-exclusive breastfeeding. The results of the bivariate test with chi square obtained a significant effect on the knowledge of mothers about exclusive breastfeeding. It is suggested for the government agencies of the Health Service to make this research the basis of policy formulation regarding the knowledge of mothers about breastfeeding that can be further improved through counseling and public service advertisements so that it will increase the knowledge of mothers about exclusive breastfeeding and it is hoped that behavior changes will occur.

CORRELATION BETWEEN KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDE OF WORKING MOTHER WITH EXCLUSIVE BREASTFEEDING PRACTICE IN LOKTABAT UTARA VILLAGE, SOUTH KALIMANTAN

Data and information from Ministry of Health (2013) showed the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding 0-6 months according to the province, exclusive breastfeeding in South Kalimantan amounted to 58.7%. Based on the results of a preliminary survey in the Loktabat Utara Village exclusive breastfeeding coverage is only 43%. Low coverage of exclusive breastfeeding was caused by working status of the mothers where the demands of the job so that less time is available to provide breast milk to their babies. The purpose of this study is to explain the relationship between knowledge and attitude of working mothers with exclusively breastfeeding practice. This research is quantitative with cross sectional approach. Data were analyzed by univariate and bivariate using ch-square test. Results showed there was no correlation between knowledge (p=0.597) and attitude (p=0.572) of working mothers with exclusive breastfeeding practice. Expected to government, policy makers and health sector further enhance efforts to improve the coverage exclusive breastfeeding through counselling directly to the target audience and provide breastfeeding rooms in the workplace. It is also necessary motivation from the family and the people around to nursing mothers for increase exclusive breastfeeding practice.

Myths and Failure of Exclusive Breastfeeding: Study in Buaran Community Health Center Pekalongan Regency Central Java

Background: Failure of exclusive breastfeeding is still high in Pekalongan regency, Central Java Indonesia. The one of reasondue to the existing myth about breast milk and breastfeeding activity in society culture. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between myth about breastfeeding and failure of exclusive breastfeeding. Method: This cross-sectional study design conducted among 151 mothers with infant 6-12 month age which selected by cluster sampling, in Buaran Community Health Center in Pekalongan Regency Central Java Indonesia, from January to May 2017. An instrument used was a questionnaire developed by the reseacher. Result: The results showed 70.1% participants failed exclusive breastfeeding, 56.9% of them believed negative myths about exclusive breastfeeding by p = 0.001 (95% CI: 1,757-8,057). The characteristic of participants was in reproductive age (81,5%), multiparous (71,5%), unemployed (70,9%), and from extended family (66,9%). Most of the participants had a vaginal delivery (86,8%). There was asignificant relationship between myths about breastfeeding and failure of exclusive breastfeeding. Breastfeeding education should deliver in community-based, in terms of growing breastfeeding culture, i n Indonesian society.

Breastfeeding is a natural process in which pregnant mothers will be breastfeeding to help their babies stay healthy. However, several factors can interfere with appropriate breastfeeding, such as family income, mothers’ knowledge about breastfeeding and supportive environment. Analysis of determinant factors of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia: A case of ulakan Tapakis District

Background and Aim: Infant's nutritional needs for optimal growth and development up to of 6 months can be supplied by exclusive breastfeeding because it contains all the nutrients as the infant needs. However, the exclusive breastfeeding practice has been relatively low in Indonesia, including Tapakis District in West Sumatera Province. The study aimed to explore the determinant factors related to this practice. Method: A cross sectional study was conducted in Uakan Tapakis District, on 88 mothers who have a child aged 0-12 months. To understand the determinant factors, the data was analyzed both using bivariate and multivariate analysis. Result: The result shows that exclusive breastfeeding is associated to knowledge (p=0.025), attitude (p=0.038), motivation (p=0.044), occupational status (p=0,025), health resource availability (p=0,028), health officer role (p = 0,013) and family support (p= 0,038). Moreover, the most dominant variable is the role of health workers in supporting the breastfeeding practice (p= 0.013, OR=8.772). Conclusion: The health workers, especially midwife plays significant role in supporting breastfeeding practice. It is necessary to have good communication and health education from health workers for the succeed implementation.
