Profile Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) of Primary School Teacher in Science Teaching
EduHumaniora | Jurnal Pendidikan Dasar Kampus Cibiru, 2019
This research is to know pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) of primary schools teacher in science lesson. The research method used survey method. Research subject is determined by purposive sampling technique. Research data were collected by interview technique, questionnaire, test, product assessment, and observation. Data were analyzed by one-way Anova toward civil servant period, certification period, work class, GPA and university origin. The conclusions obtained indicate that the teacher's PCK in teaching science in primary schools depends on the newly-conducted training program such as the Teacher Education and Professional Training (PLPG). There is no correlation between the underlying factors as a teacher and the PCK in significantly teaching science in primary schools. It is recommended that teachers regularly attend training related to the updating of learning materials or related to PCK as the basis of the teaching profession in teaching science through an in service...
Secondary school science teachers’ Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) in their classroom practice
2021
Research on teacher expertise has identified pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) as the most important factor impacting student progress (Neumann, Kind & Harms, 2019; Park & Chen, 2012) and supported its recognition in teacher practice (Kind & Chan, 2019). Since the recognition of PCK as something that teachers possess, there has been theorizing and research into its nature, its components, and the relationship among these components. To address such issues, two international summits were organized in 2012 and 2016. The key outputs of these summits were theoretical consensus models of PCK (Carlson & Daehler, 2019; Gess-Newsome, 2015). This study builds on novel emerging ideas in the first PCK consensus model (Gess-Newsome, 2015). These consensus models stressed the need for examination of PCK in classroom practices. Researchers have argued for research to understand teachers’ PCK in their practice, with the ultimate goal of the enhancement of students’ learning (Abell, 2007; Barends...
As a review study, the present study was carried out in order to introduce PCK construct to researchers and evaluate which aspects of PCK were studied in our country, and, finally, make recommendations in light of the analysis of the studies for further research. For this purpose, ERIC database, YÖK (Higher Education Council) database were searched by using “Pedagogical Content Knowledge” as keyword. Moreover, journals published in Turkey and which are possible to be reached electronically were searched using the same keyword. 28 studies in the science education context were analyzed by means of standards obtained from the related literature. Results showed that large part of the studies were conducted with pre-service teachers as case studies. Moreover, PCK was studied in terms of its components rather than as a whole. In addition to that, participant teachers and pre-service teachers have some shortcomings regarding to PCK, pedagogical knowledge, and subject matter knowledge. Findings will hopefully provide some insight for researchers since shortages of the related literature will be determined by this study. Key
Pedagogical Content Knowledge Practices of Public School Science Teachers
Technium Social Sciences Journal
Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) is used to determine the development of pedagogical and disciplinary science teachers; knowledge over time. Hence, investigating the extent of PCK practice is essential as it predicts how teachers carry out instructions. The study determined science teachers' extent of PCK practice in public schools in a medium-sized division in Central Philippines in the areas of Subject Matter Knowledge (SMK), Instructional Representation Strategies (IRS), Instructional Objective and Context (IOC), and Knowledge of Students' Understanding (KSU) using the descriptive-comparative research design. Using a researcher-modified questionnaire, the study was conducted to 208 respondents who were identified through stratified random sampling. The findings revealed that the extent of PCK practice is very great. A significant difference exists in the extent of PCK practice in terms of SMK and IOC when teachers are grouped according to age, grade level taught, and length of teaching service. Likewise, there is a significant difference in the extent of PCK practice in terms of KSU when respondents are grouped according to the grade level taught. This means that although female doctorate degree elementary teachers with longer teaching experience perform better, all science teachers, have a very great subject matter mastery, effective instructional delivery, context and objectives, and processing and evaluation of students' knowledge.

Integrated Science Teachers’ Pedagogical Content Knowledge
International Journal of Innovative Research and Development
The acquisition of general scientific literacy by every Ghanaian citizen is a requirement for successful living in modern times. Scientific culture develops and this aligns with the country's strategic programme of achieving scientific and technological literacy in the shortest possible time. This scientific culture is the antithesis to superstition and a catalyst for faster development (Curriculum Research Development Division, CRDD, 2012). It is traditionally accepted that for any effective teaching, the teacher should have both the content knowledge and the pedagogy. According to Pihie and Sipon (2013), teachers' knowledge about the subject matter to be learned or taught and that of content to be covered in the syllabus as well the strategies to use to teach the subject are very important and when applied well will promote effective teaching and learning. One of the responsibilities of the Integrated Science teachers is to assist students to understand content of the subject. It is in the light of this Shulman (1986; 1987) put forward that teachers make use of pedagogical content knowledge (PCK), a special kind of knowledge that teachers have about how to teach particular content to particular students in ways that promote understanding. Teachers are generally considered to be the most essential elements in student learning and for that matter teachers' PCK, whether pre-service or in-service, is one of the most essential factors that affect the learning process (Karışan, Şenay & Ubuz, 2013).Therefore, learning is not accomplished through teacher's approach to teaching and learning but rather how the teacher will integrate curriculum content to teacher's own professional content knowledge to diverse interests and abilities of learners. The teacher is required to blend both the nature and the scope of the subject to achieve its purpose, goals and objectives. 2. Literature Review 2.1. Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) Teaching is a multifaceted cognitive skill going on in an ill-structured, dynamic environment (Coulson, Feltovich, Jacobson & Spiro (1991), as cited in Kereluik, Koehler & Mishra, 2010). Expertise in teaching is dependent on flexible access to highly organized systems of knowledge (Borko & Putnam, 2000). Teachers are expected to possess certain knowledge bases to be effective in their work. PCK is important in teacher education; it is a knowledge base for teaching (
This study had two purposes: to explore the components of the pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) of an experienced elementary science teacher and to reveal the presumed interactions among these components. A naturalistic inquiry was conducted as a single case study in which in-depth qualitative data were gathered through semi-structured interview questions. After the theory-based and data-driven analysis of the qualitative data, the verbal communication was quantitated into numerical data for the enumerative analysis. The results revealed that the teacher’s knowledge of students’ understanding and difficulties, knowledge of the elementary science curriculum and knowledge of instructional strategies and representations were found to be mostly intersected PCK components, whereas orientations towards teaching science and knowledge of assessment in science had limited connections to the other components. Further discussions and context-based suggestions are given regarding professional development programmes.

In this study, the pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) of four experienced primary school teachers was investigated within the "Let's Solve the Riddle of Our Body Unit". The PCK investigation adopted a learning approach based on inquiry, content representation and pedagogical and professional-experience repertoires (PaP-eRs), and interview forms were used as data collection tools. During the course of the research, the findings obtained from observations made during a total of 18 course hours formed the basic data source of the study. According to the results of the study, in which descriptive and content analysis were used concurrently, primary school teachers lack subject matter knowledge, do not interrogate the pre-knowledge of students and some misconceptions exist regarding about blood moves and exercise with pulse. Additionally, some deficiencies were detected in the curriculum, i.e., it offers non-inquisitional knowledge. Furthermore, teachers employee assessment methods with traditional teaching methods and techniques. In the context of an inquiry-based learning approach, teachers appeared to believe that classroom activities were adversely affected by the physical conditions (class size, lack of laboratory etc.), students' cognitive levels and parent profiles. The result of this study revealed that PCK components affect one another. The PCK findings pertaining to primary school teachers as it concerns the unit are briefly discussed and some suggestions about the development of PCK are submitted.
The Knowledge of Teaching--Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK)
2015
Pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) was first introduced by Shulman in the 80’s. It is defined as the integration or amalgamation of pedagogy and content which basically covers the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of teaching. PCK was considered as the missing paradigm in the study of teaching. This integration of knowledge was long searched by the scholars in the United States in their effort to elevate teaching to the professional status similar to that of doctor, lawyer and engineer. As PCK is the knowledge of teaching, this concept paper presents an overview on definitions of teaching, indicators and knowledge bases required in good teaching. This paper also presents the conceptions and models of PCK, the processes (PRA Model) involved in the growth and development of PCK of teachers and the importance of PCK.
