Surgical Correction of Congenital Double Lip - A Case Report

International Journal of Research in Pharmaceutical Sciences

Lip provides an attractive and pleasing appearance to the face. Lip anomaly is by the presence of excess fold or redundant or tissue on side of the lip which is referred as double lip. It can be either congenital or acquired and unilateral or bilateral. Such rare entity can affect either upper lip or lower lip or both as seen in syndrome which can be easily diagnosed clinically and rarely reports were published on congenital double lip. During growth and development, the upper lip possesses an outer cutaneous zone often referred as pars and an inner zone which is known as pars which are the two transverse zones. The non-inflammatory labial mucous gland of the pars and unreasonable abundant tissue results in double lip. Treatment should be carried out by an excision of the and sub tissue, without involvement of the underlying muscle This article is a report of a 10 years old boy with this deformity who presented with the complaint of huge lips causing unaesthetic appearance of face a...

Congenital Double Lip: A Rare Deformity Treated Surgically

Lip is an important aspect of facial features affecting ones personality. A deformity of the lip characterized by excessive tissue sagging below the usual giving it thicker wider appearance is referred to as double lip. It is a rare occurrence with a proposed male predilection. This article is a report of a 20 years old male with this deformity who presented with the complaint of difficult speech and poor aesthetics. There was no other history patient being systemically healthy. It was successively treated with a simple surgical technique without recurrence over a period of 12 months.

Surgical Management of a Rare Case of Congenital DoubleUpper Lip

Case Reports in Medicine, 2011

Congenital double lip is a rare developmental anomaly which usually involves the upper lip. It may occur in isolation or as a part of Ascher's syndrome. The occurrence of double lip may result in facial deformity especially when patient attempts to talk, smile, or even try to show the teeth. It affects esthetics and also interferes with speech and mastication. Although surgery may be undertaken to facilitate speech and mastication, majority of cases are operated for cosmetic reasons. A case of congenital double upper lip which was surgically treated for cosmetic reason is reported.

Congenital double upper lip: review of literature and report of a case

Journal of investigative and clinical dentistry, 2011

Congenital maxillary double lip is a rare anomaly in which a fold of redundant labial tissue becomes apparent at rest or while smiling. This might pose cosmetic or functional problems, as well as serious impact on psychological well-being, especially when it affects young children or adolescents. The treatment of choice is surgical excision. This paper presents a successfully managed case of maxillary double lip using elliptical incision under local anesthesia in a 15-year-old female patient.

Congenital double upper lip: A case report and review of the literature

The Saudi dental journal, 2010

Congenital double lip is a rare developmental anomaly which usually involves the upper lip more than the lower lip. It may occur in isolation or as a part of Ascher's syndrome. Sometimes upper and lower double lips occur simultaneously. The occurrence of double lip may result in facial deformity especially when the patient attempts to talk, smile or even show the teeth. It may also interfere with speech or mastication. Although surgery may be undertaken to facilitate speech and mastication, the majority of cases are operated for cosmetic reasons. A case of congenital double upper lip, which was surgically treated after orthodontic treatment, for cosmetic reasons, is reported. The different surgical approaches to the management of double upper lip are reviewed with a note on timing of surgery in patients who have concurrent orthodontic or prosthodontic problems. Although the majority of cases of double lip are treated by Plastic Surgeons and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, it is...

Congenital Maxillary Double Lip: A Case Report

Journal of Nepalese Society of Periodontology and Oral Implantology, 2021

Congenital maxillary double lip: review of the literature and report of a case

Journal (Canadian Dental Association)

A double lip is an anomaly that may be either congenital or acquired. It occurs most often in the upper lip, although both upper and lower lips are occasionally involved. Surgical intervention (simple excision) produces good functional and cosmetic results. In this report, we describe a case of congenital double upper lip, present a review of the literature and discuss the differential diagnosis. Double lip is of special interest in dentistry because the general practitioner is often the first professional to detect and establish the diagnosis of this uncommon condition.

Double Lip–An Atypical Facial Anomaly: Two Case Reports

International Journal of Clinical Pediatric Dentistry

Double lip is a rare abnormality. It affects the lips, more often the upper lips and could be acquired or congenital. It may be associated with Ascher's syndrome or occur in isolation. In this deformity, there is an accessory fold of redundant mucous membrane inside the vermillion border. This cupid's bow-shaped accessory tissue is usually conspicuous during smiling but maybe occasionally visible even at rest. For the patient, this atypical facial deformity most importantly creates an aesthetic problem. Nonetheless, it may also interfere with their speech or function. Surgical excision is the treatment of choice and gives appropriate esthetic and functional results. In this article, we have presented two case reports of congenital maxillary double lip. The etiology, clinical presentation, histopathology and treatment of this infrequent anomaly have been discussed.

Assessment of a new surgical management of maxillary double lip

2020

Background: Double lip may be congenital or acquired abnormality. Different surgical approaches were used for management. These approaches may be impacted by the possible edema of the surgical site. Fixed landmarks along the incision line should be determined to achieve ideal healing process. The objective of this experiment is to assess the success of a new surgical technique for the management of double lip from the point of view of patient satisfaction and healing. Materials and Methods: Twelve patients diagnosed as suffering from double lip seeking for treatment were included in this study. They were assigned into two groups (6 patients each). After anesthesia, a standard surgical excision via elliptical incision was used in the first group. A modified surgical protocol was used in the second group by passing a pre-incision suture needle perpendicular to the middle of every planned incision. The pre-incision suture is tied after excision of excess tissue as one of the regular su...
