An Art-Historical Paradigm for Investigating Native American Pictographs of the Lower Pecos Region, Texas (original) (raw)
This paper proposes an art-historical approach to enhance the understanding of Native American pictographs in the Lower Pecos Region of Texas. It discusses the limitations of current methods and advocates for employing art-historical paradigms—focused on intrinsic and extrinsic factors—to better investigate the context and significance of these ancient artworks. The paper implores for a systematic analysis, suggesting that while complete reconstruction of the original meanings may be impossible, such an interdisciplinary inquiry can enrich our appreciation and interpretation of these historic art forms.
