Transition I efficiency and victory in volleyball matches

Motriz: Revista de Educação Física, 2014

The present study investigated the correlation between Transition I with victory in volleyball matches. The 2002 South-American Youth Men's Championship was recorded and the Transition I was analyzed and classified as negative, null or positive. Results of the efficiency in Transition I was calculated using t test for independent samples and compared to the efficiency between teams during each set and matches. Spearman correlation assessed the relationship between efficiency in each set and results of the matches with the final ranking in the championship. The results showed that the winning teams exhibited higher efficiency in Transition I, as well as a positive relationship of higher efficiency in Transition I with all of their results. The higher efficiency in Transition I is related to victory in volleyball matches.

Multivariate analysis of the success factors in high-level male volleyball

2019

Introduction. In volleyball a team’s performance in skills is connected to the game result and to the team’s success in a championship. Apart from analyzing the importance of each skill separately, assessing performance after classifying teams based on their ranking can be an effective procedure to understand the performance determinants. Aim of Study. The aim of the present study was to identify those parameters that discriminate the teams ranked in positions 1-2 from those ranked in positions 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12, through a longitudinal analysis of 12 championships of the Greek Volleyball League. Material and Methods. Performance data for all teams of 12 Greek Volleyball championships from 2005-2006 until 2016-2017 (n = 143) was used. The effectiveness of twelve (12) parameters from 5 basic volleyball skills: serve, attack after serve’s pass, attack after the defence, block and reception were examined. Multinomial logistic regression was used in order to model the relatio...

Game-Related Performance Factors in four European Men’s Professional Volleyball Championships

Journal of Human Kinetics, 2016

The present study was designed to assess the relevance of game-related performance factors as outcome predictors in high-level volleyball. To carry out the analysis, the official box scores of 399 matches played by 47 different teams in four different European male professional volleyball leagues (Italy, Poland, Germany and Turkey) during the 2013-14 regular season were analyzed. A logistic mixed model was performed to determine the effects of different variables in matches’ outcomes. According to the multivariate analysis the following factors were significantly associated with winning matches: the number of scorers (OR = 1.32; CI: 1.09 – 1.59), service errors (OR = 0.91; CI: 0.87 – 0.95), service points (OR = 1.25; CI: 1.15 -1.36), reception errors (OR = 0.79; CI: 0.74 – 0.84), the percentage of positive receptions (OR = 1.02; CI: 1.00 -1.04) and blocked balls (OR = 1.17; CI: 1.11 – 1.26). Team category 2 (OR = 0.39; CI: 0.24 – 0.63) and team category 3 (OR = 0.15; CI: 0.09 – 0.25...

Associations between performance indicators and set's result on male volleyball

The present study examines the associations between performance indicators (number of spike points, spike errors, spike continuity, block points, block errors, block continuity, serve points, serve errors, serve continuity, dig excellent, dig errors, dig continuity, set excellent, set errors, set continuity, reception excellent, reception errors and reception continuity) and performance in Volleyball, concerning set result (set win and set loose). For this 65.949 actions from 550 sets of Men's Senior World League (2005) were analyzed. Multivariable logistic regression was used in data analysis. The results show that serve point (OR:16.1, 95%CI: 5.7-45.9), serve continuity (OR:4.6, 95%CI:2.8-7.5) and spike point (OR:4.1, 95%CI:2.2-7.6) are the performance indicators more associated with the success in Volleyball.

Relationship between performance in game actions and the match result. A study in volleyball training stages

Journal of Human Sport and Exercise, 2013

In recent years, a number of quantitative methods have been identified and developed with the specific intent of assisting the objective analysis of athletic performance (Nelson & Groom, 2012). The main aim of this research was to clarify the importance of performance in game actions as determinant of match result in a sample of young volleyball male players. The study sample was composed of 74 male participants belonging to the Under-16 teams (M: 14.61; SD: .88) from the Extremadura Volleyball League in the 2010/2011 season. The studied variables were: performance in game actions (serve, defense, setting and spike) and match result (win/lost). FIVB Observational System (Coleman, 1975) has been the instrument for data recollection, it has been applied previously in numerous studies and is accepted as a valid tool for research community. The T-test for independent samples results showed statistically significant differences in performance of game actions: serve (F1,72= 3.86; p=.048; np2=.492), defense (F1,72=14.07; p<.001.; np2=.959), setting (F1,72=34.83; p<.001.; np2=1.00) and spike (F1,72=9.05 ; p=.004; np2=.84) between players from winner and loser teams. Our results coincide with previous studies that emphasize the importance of game actions in volleyball (Asterios et al., 2009). This analysis is important as it assists in the collection of performance information that can feedback athletes in an attempt to enhance their understanding and competitive performance (Maslovat & Franks, 2008) and also for talent identification and recruitment (Carling et al., 2005).

Technical and tactical performance indicators based on the outcome of the set in the school volleyball

Motricidade

ARTIGO ORIGINAL | ORIGINAL ARTICLE RESUMO O objetivo do estudo foi identificar e comparar os indicadores de rendimento técnico-tático em função do resultado do set no voleibol feminino escolar. Timişoara Physical Education and Rehabilitation Journal , 2019

Background: Volleyball game has developed and spread all over the world being more and more spectacular and dynamic. The importance of an objective analysis of the game has become decisive for obtaining the victory, and the statistical analysis of the specific parameters such as serve receiving, serves, points obtained, blocks can influence the results of the game. Aim: The purpose of the experiment was to analyze the decisive factors in the success or failure of the CSM Volleyball team Volei Alba Blaj in the Final Four CEV Champions League for women's volleyball. Methods: The statistical analysis included descriptive statistics elements (mean, median, standard deviation), and elements of inferential statistics. The D'Agostino & Pearson test was applied to determine the distribution of the analyzed data series. For the comparison of means and medians the t-Student test was applied, for pair data, and the Wilcoxon test, respectively. The significance threshold chosen for the p value was 0.05. The statistical analysis was performed using the Graph Pad Prism utility. Results: We compared the two main parameters in the first phase of the volleyball game that consisted of service and service reception. The results were significant regarding the service parameter, where we compared the total number of good serves, serve errors and ace serves. Then, we have also analyzed the second parameter found in the first phase of the volleyball game, the serve reception. The results were also statistically significant showing that both parameters, service and service reception, are decisive in the volleyball game. Conclusions: The statistical analysis in the volleyball game can emphasize objective and decisive factors and parameters that can influence the result of a volleyball game. It is important to use statistics in modern volleyball game and to prepare the game or even action in real time so as to obtain the best results.
