Assessing the readiness of students for distance learning is one of the main factors in the planning and implementation of distance learning. The purpose of this study was to identify and analyze the readiness of students to implement distance learning tools while learning English. The authors consider the students' readiness to implement distance learning as a complex of cognitive, motivational, technological, and reflexive components. The paper analyzes various forms of diagnosing readiness levels, including surveys, questionnaires, interviews, and observations used in the study. The research demonstrated that distance learning presented some challenges to students on the one hand, and offered them new opportunities on the other hand. A list of factors that impeded English distance learning and benefits of distance learning were identified by students in this survey. The most notable is the growth of the high-level category of technological component. 83% of respondents indicated that they mastered new distance learning tools they had not previously used or used partially. On the plus side within the cognitive component we can admit gaining of new experience by students. Changes in the motivational and reflexive components were less noticeable.

"Students' Attitude towards Distance Learning at Al-Quds Open University/Tulkarem Educational Region " The aim of this study is to examine the students' attitude towards open learning at Al-Quds Open University. To achieve this aim, the researcher used a 30-item questionnaire which was distributed among 92 male and female students (2% of the whole population) who were chosen randomly from four educational specializations: Education, social service, administration and technology. The researcher used different statistical procedures such as means and percentages, independent paired t-test and the one way ANOVA test to analyze the necessary data for the research. Results revealed that students highly value distance learning system because it offers a good opportunity for higher education to a large number of students who want to pursue their education by overcoming the spatial, economical, and social barriers. It also provides self – directedness and autonomous learning opportunities. In the light of these findings, the researcher recommended the consideration of lack of campus activities and rarity of instructor-student interaction for a viable distance learning system.

Students’ perceptions on distance education: A multinational study
International Journal of Educational Technology in Higher Education, 2020
Many universities offer Distance Education (DE) courses and programs to address the diverse educational needs of students and to stay current with advancing technology. Some Institutions of Higher Education (IHE) that do not offer DE find it difficult to navigate through the steps that are needed to provide such courses and programs. Investigating learners’ perceptions, attitudes and willingness to try DE can provide guidance and recommendations for IHEs that are considering expanding use of DE formats. A survey was distributed to undergraduate students in Portugal, UAE and Ukraine. The results of this pilot study showed that in all three countries, students’ major concerns about such programs were time management, motivation, and English language skills. Although students were somewhat apprehensive many indicated they were interested in taking DE courses. Six recommendations informed by interpretation of students’ responses and the literature, are offered to assist institutions who...

Developing an attitude scale towards distance learning
Behaviour & Information Technology, 2022
This study aims to develop an attitude scale towards distance learning and conduct a validity and reliability study for it. The study uses two study groups. The first group comprises 384 university students conducting exploratory factor analysis, and the second comprises 305 students conducting confirmatory factor analysis. The analysis resulted in a 16 item, four-factor structure with factor loading values all between 0.45 and 0.94. This structure makes up for 54.4% of the total variance. The factors were named usefulness, communication, preference for distance learning, and preference for face to face learning. The confirmatory factor analysis results show that this model displays decent coherence. The reliability studies show that internal consistency coefficients are values all between 0.67 and 0.84. It was also discovered that the scale dimensions display no difference with regard to gender. These results show that this scale is a valid and reliable tool.

With the transition of universities around the world to distance learning during the pandemic of COVID-19, the higher education has become the global and accessible, and competition between universities in the international educational market has increased. The opinion of Chinese students about distance learning as an alternative form to the traditional in-person education at Russian university is an important criterion for the evaluation of university's ability to retain and attract the foreign students to study in Russia in an environment of competition among the universities, as the Chinese students exactly are make up the majority among the foreign students of Russian universities. The purpose of the study is to find out the opinion of Chinese students about the distance learning format at the Russian university from the point of view of influence it on the formation of communicative competence in Russian language and adaptation to a foreign language environment of university. Materials and methods. The 100 Chinese students of 1-4 years of the Humanitarian Institute (HI) and 57 students of the 1st year of the Institute of Industrial Management of Economics and Trade (IIMET) of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University took part in the survey. The research methods are analysis and systematization of student’s answers to questionnaires, content analysis. Results and discussion. The results of the research showed: 1) the Chinese students in general assess the distance learning format as more comfortable (89% – comfortable, 3% – not comfortable) in comparison with in-person (43% – comfortable, 54% – not comfortable) education in the psychological aspect, which is associated with their national characteristics (75% of students are not afraid to answer in front of other students in a distance format, 89% of students feel more comfortable in distance classroom lessons); 2) the students do not experience the difficulties in using the new technical programs and Internet resources (56% – no difficulties; 24% – yes difficulties; 20% – no answers); 3) the formation of communicative competencies in the Russian language largely depends not on the format of learning (68% of students like to study Russian in distant format, 59% are satisfied with their success in learning Russian), but on the readiness and individual skills and abilities of the learner to study (58% of students note they use knowledge of the Russian language in the classroom) and on the teacher skills and abilities in the work in a distance format (75% of students note the importance of presentation materials prepared by the teacher); 4) the difficulties in adapting to the foreign language environment of the university are associated with the level of proficiency in the Russian language and the cultural traditions of the countries (74% of students note difficulties in communicating with the administrative services of the university, 64% of students do not use Russian to solve educational and administrative issues). Conclusion. The obtained results and conclusions can be useful for academic staff, as well as employees of the administrative services of the university and all interested persons who works with Chinese students.

DISTANCE LEARNING AND THE ATTITUDE OF SERBIAN STUDENTS
16th International Conference on Education and New Learning Technologies (EDULEARN24), 2024
Distance learning is an approach to education that has exhibited a significant demand in the last years. The need for distance education, either undergraduate or graduate programs, has emerged due to several circumstances. It was the COVID pandemic, busy everyday schedules, economic issues and the geographical distribution of students and universities that boosted the distance education approach. In this new era for teaching and learning opportunities, it was necessary to record the attributes, distance education opinions, teaching and learning preferences of the students. This investigation focused not only on the students but also on the fellow students and their instructors. In order to succeed in recording all these data, a structured questionnaire survey has been designed and implemented. Fifty-one students from Serbian Universities responded and their answers were statistically analyzed. Female participants were the majority with almost 55% of the sample, and the age of most of the participants ranged among 20 to 22 years old. Almost all the participants are single and at the moment of the questionnaire survey studied in undergraduate programs. Students attending distance education programs prefer smaller groups of students (<30) and the like listening to the course material and taking notes. They are particularly fond of experimenting and focusing on one thing at a given time. It is very interesting that they particularly like to work independently on projects. The study also identified a number of interesting correlations.
