This study is an attempt to investigate the effect of weblogs on the improvement of Iranian EFL learners' writing skill. To achieve this goal, the researchers designed a weblog, which was shared by the treatment group of the study; the study had 50 EFL students divided into two groups of treatment and control. Mainly two steps were taken during the study, a pre-test and a post-test. The pre-test administration was due to check the proficiency of the participants and the post to measure the impact of the study process. The data obtained from tests and questionnaires throughout the academic year 2012, and from comments made on the blog, revealed that the students responded positively to the use of the blogs inside a class. It was found that the blog helped them to improve their writing through the collaborative learning environment that was established and through the process of writing that was adopted. There was consensus that writing for an audience and peer review contributed to the development of the collaborative learning environment and this was conducive to developing writing skills.
The Use of Weblog in Improving Students’ Writing Skill

This research is aimed at finding out whether the use of weblog improves students’ writing skill at SMPN 9 Banda Aceh or not. The sample of this research was the second grade students in the class of VII-1. The researcher used pre-experimental research with one group pre-test post-test design in analyzing the significant improvement. The data were gained quantitatively by administering pre-test and post-test. In analyzing the data, the researcher used statistical formula mean score and t-test. The finding shows that the mean score in the post-test was higher than in pretest. It shows that the mean score of posttest is higher (75) than the pretest score (57), so the different scores of the tests is 18. Moreover, the analysis of t-test showed that t score > t table or 8.714 > 2.074 at the level of significance 0.05 with the degree of freedom (df) 22. Weblog-Based Collaborative Learning: Iranian EFL Learners' Writing Skill and Motivation

This study investigated the effect of weblog-based collaborative learning on young Iranian EFL learners' writing skill and motivation. To this end, the participants were selected from a language institute and divided into two groups of experimental and control each with 40 female students in the age range of 18 to 25. They were classified as low, intermediate, and high according to their level of language proficiency. While the control group attended classes, the students in the experimental group were simply asked to put their writing assignments on the weblog. They were asked to read each others' writings and make comments and corrections. A pre-test measured the participants' initial behavior in writing. A parallel test was conducted at the end of the study to check the effect of the treatment on the students' final behavior in writing. Their writing was scored by using the scoring rubric adapted from Rog (2007). A questionnaire was also used to check the blogger's motivation. The analysis of the data revealed that the blogging integrated collaborative learning instruction was more effective than in-class language learning instruction. The results of the study indicate that blogs as a tool for language learning provide a platform for language 413 learners to use the language actively. Finally, learners were motivated to use language and build their autonomy in learning language.

This research describes using two of tools that are weblog and e-learning model to improve students’ writing skills in the second semester English Education Department Faculty of Language and Science Wijaya Kusuma Surabaya University. Those students have some problems in learning writing. They were confused what they must write for the first time and they were lack of vocabularies, and they were passive and looked uninterested in teaching and learning writing process. Based on the implementation of the study, the researcher found out that after being treated with weblog and e-learning model as a tool to improve students’ writing skill, the students had positive response and enjoyed the strategy when they practiced to post their writing through weblog and e-learning with their friends. The Effect of Weblog Media Toward Writing Ability of the First Grade Students

Weblog is one of media that provides special features to learn writing. Thus, the aims of this research to see the effect of weblog media toward students' writing ability at SMK Manajemen Penerbangan Pekanbaru. The design of this research was quasi-experimental. The first grade students was the population in this research and it consists of two classess as sample. One experimental class and one control class. Data collection technique were the students' writing test consists of pre-test and post test to see the effect of weblog media on the students' writing ability. This research found that weblog media give significant effect toward students' writing ability of the first grade students at SMK Manajemen Penerbangan Pekanbaru.
The Pedagogical Potentials of Weblog in Developing Students' Writing Skills

Writing is viewed hugely important, yet it is a daunting task for both English as a second language (ESL) teachers and learners. With the development of different approaches to teaching in general, numerous approaches to the teaching of writing have been evolved such as product, process and post-process approaches. Although these approaches have changed the role and status of writing over the years, writing still appears as one of the difficult areas to tackle as students lack academic writing skills and they are de-motivated to write in English. In view of this, researchers show an interest in looking into the possibilities of using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools for language teaching and learning. This paper discusses the application of the latest ICT tool, which is known as weblog as an effective tool in ESL classrooms. The aim of this study is to explore the pedagogical potentials of weblog in developing the writing skills of ESL learners. In particular, this paper wishes to identify and discuss the characteristics of weblogs as an appropriate and effective tool in assisting the learners in various ways to improve their writing skills. This study will further highlight the benefits of web logging activities and the impacts of these activities on students’ motivation to write in English as autonomous learners.
THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING WEBLOG TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN WRITING RECOUNT TEXTS
ABSTRACT: The use of weblog to improve students’ ability in writing has been proved by previous studies, especially in writing narrative and descriptive texts, since it provides features to write. However, in terms of the nature and features of weblog, it is closer to the structure of recount text than other text types. This study aimed to know the effectiveness of using weblog to improve students’ ability in writing recount texts. This study used quasi-experiment method and conducting the pre and posttest to the experimental and control groups. The data were analyzed using ANCOVA and the result showed that the significant difference of both scores was at .004 less than significant difference .05 which meant that the null hypothesis was rejected. The sample of the study was 20 students of the fourth semester English study program of Tridinanti University Palembang. The researchers used purposive sampling as the way of choosing the sample because the sample is taught by the researchers in writing class. The researchers applied quasi-experimental design in term of pretest-posttestnon equivalent group design. Moreover, there are three types of data collection used by the researchers; they are test, questionnaire and observation. After the study, it was found out that the results of posttest between experiment and control group show significant difference with t value of posttest was 11.739, sig 0.000 while t value of gain score was 7.671, sig 0.000. Weblog as an Appropriate Online Medium in Teaching Writing
This research aims to develop weblog as media in teaching writing of senior high school students. The procedure of developing media consisted of analyzing learners, stating objectives, selecting media, utilizing media, requiring learner participation, evaluating and revising. The product was examined by the media expert. After conducting the first test, the second test was conducted by English teachers and students. The subjects of this research were the eleventh-grade students of SMAN 1 Piyungan, Bantul, Yogyakarta. The subject consisted of 19 students of class XI. The researcher used an interview and questionnaires as the data collecting technique. The questionnaires were distributed for needs analysis and expert validation. English teacher and students responded toward the developed weblog. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics for the questionnaires and the qualitative analysis technique for the interview. The findings revealed that the developed weblog as online media in teaching writing is categorized "very good" by experts with the mean scores put on 3.82. The result of the score of the tryout is 3.48 and categorized as very good. The English teacher's response towards the weblog shows the range of average mean score on 3.69 categorized "very good". Therefore, the developed weblog is very appropriate to use in the teaching and learning process of writing.
