Impact of GST on Hotel Industry- A Study in Bhubaneswar City in Odisha

Three decades later, indirect taxation modifications took place in India on 1 July 2017. Goods and service tax is a uniform indirect tax to be applied across the country for the purpose of a "one nationone tax." This study seeks to show the effect on the Indian hospitality industry of the goods and services tax. The Indian market is integrated with the introduction of GST and the company costs will be lowered in the foreseeable future. The hotel industry was in burden with multiple taxes on amount charged for different services. Previously, additional charges were charged for different activities in hotel industry in India. But now in GST, single tax charged with clearly stated slab rates for various services. Slab rate increases with increase in number of services charged i.e., for basic services rates are less and luxurious services are under high GST slab rate. Here we try to explain the impact of GST system on hoteliers of Bhubaneswar city. For this purpose, researcher collected samples from 15 hotels of the city. This paper is aimed at assessing the observation and experience of hotel owners after GST in interacting with consumers.

An Empirical Study on Impact of GST on Hotel Industry at Chennai City

This study aims to find out the influence of GST on Hotel Industry at Chennai city. The study was chosen five independent variables to identify the opinion of respondents on the implementation of GST namely GST is effective, easy to understand, taxation condition, profit margin and customer increase after GST. The study was empirical in nature. The study collectes data from 50 hotels (20 from 3 star, 20 from 4 star and 10 from 5 star hotels) by using structured scheduled interview method. Secondary data was collected from books, magazines and from websites. The sampling technique adopted for the study was disproportionate stratified random sampling method. Authors have performed an innovative investigation study on analyzing the decisive merits, major challenges and valuable suggestions for implementing the Goods and Service Tax (GST) in hotel industry. Forty In-depth interviews have been conducted from high profile designated personnel of hotel industry located in India. Noteworthy corollaries exhibit that uniformity and transparency are the prime merits of GST implementation in Hotel industry. Crucial challenges in implementing GST are applicability of tax rate structure and increased burden of compliance. Finally, Hotel authorities firmly suggest that well conversant rules and regulations of GST would be beneficial for the economy of Hotel industry.

The GST changed almost all the indirect tax system in India. Hotel industry is one of the major industries in India. The contribution of service industry to the growth of economy is more than rest two sectors. Obviously the hotel industry comes under territory sector. Under GST both goods as well as services will be covered. So, the GST definitely impacts on hotel and real estate business. The real estate business has slight contribution to the nations GDP. GST having different types and rates makes annoy among users. In real estate sectors large deals are happened, so, huge amount of GST will be levied by the concerning authority. Understanding of GST tax regime and tax rates are quite difficult for the users. This paper intended to chalk out the impact of GST on real estate business and hotel industry.

A Study on Awareness and Perception of Consumers towards GST with Special Reference to Restaurants in Bengaluru City

In India different kind of indirect taxes applied on goods and services by central and state government like Sales tax, VAT, Service tax, excise duty, entry tax etc., In the year 2017 Goods and Services Tax (GST) implemented all over the country with an intention of one nation, one tax and one market. The GST subsumed all the indirect taxes including taxes levied in restaurants like service tax, VAT etc. Taxes levied on services is a major contributor to government revenue. GST implementation has made an impact on consumers who pay taxes on services provided by restaurants. The objective of the study is to find out the level of awareness and perception of consumers on GST in restaurants. The study used descriptive research design. A sample of 100 consumers from different restaurants were randomly taken from the Bengaluru city. Both Primary and Secondary sources were used within the study. Data collected were analyzed by using frequency and percentages and findings are interpreted accordingly.

The Effectiveness and Strategy to Increase of Hotel and Restaurant Taxes

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of hotel and restaurant taxes and hotel and restaurant tax increase strategies. The research method used a survey method. The population was 341 taxpayers with a sample of 103 taxpayers in Tasikmalaya City. The analytical tool used is effectiveness analysis and SWOT analysis. The results showed that the effectiveness of hotel and restaurant tax included in the criteria is very effective. Meanwhile, to increase hotel and restaurant tax strategy that includes improving human resources, system improvements and improvements in determining the hotel and restaurant tax revenue targets.
