Abstract

Safety was and still is the most important aspect of activities onboard ships. In time, due to the development of new threats against sea transport, security becomes the same level of importance with safety. Achieving the present standards regarding ship, personnel, passengers and environment, safety and security can be realized through specific training. Taking into consideration the actual requirements related to maritime transport safety and security, in particular at the management level, Constanta Maritime University, in cooperation with the Varna Naval Academy, has decided to initiate and develop a Master degree programme dedicated to training in these matters. This project is made possible with the support of the International Association of Maritime University (IAMU) and The Nippon Foundation in Japan. The present paper is intended to present the objectives and goals of the project entitled “MAREM – Enhancing management capacity of the maritime industry personnel.”
