Europeanization in the ‘other’ Europe: writing the nation into ‘Europe’ education in Slovakia and Estonia (original) (raw)

This paper examines how Slovakia and Estonia have navigated the dual pressures of Europeanization and nationalization in their civic education curricula following the fall of state socialism. It highlights the historical context of these two nations' independence and their efforts to balance ethnic national narratives with democratic European values, particularly in light of their EU membership. By analyzing the competing influences of local nationalism and European civic education initiatives, the study provides insight into the complexities of identity construction in post-socialist Europe.
