Study on Flavonoids and Triterpenoids Content of some Euphorbiaceae Plants
The Spurge family (Euphorbiaceae) is a large family of flowering plants. Two plant species of this family were collected from the Egyptian desert, extracted with methanol subjected to silica gel column chromatography to give six compounds, three compounds from each plant. The compounds isolated from the methanol extract of Euphorbia retusa Forssk were identified as kaempferol-3-beta-D glucopyranosyl (1), 3-O-alpha-L-xylopyranosyl (1→3)-alpha-L xylopyranosyl (1→2), beta-D glucopyranosyl-lup1,12-diene-3,21-diol (2) and 5,7,8,3',4'-pentahydroxy-3-methoxyflavone (3) and the compounds isolated from Euphorbia paralais L. identified as 3,5,3'-trihydroxy-6,7-d-methoxy-4' (7"-hydroxygeranyl-1"-ether) flavones (4), 3-O-syringic acid (1→4)-alpha-L-xylopyranosyl (1→3), beta-D-rahminopyranosyl hederagenin (5) and 3-O-syringic acid (1→4), beta-D-rahminopyranosyl (1→3),beta-D-rahminopyranosyl hederagenin (6). Plants of the genus Euphorbia are widely distributed across temperate, tropical and subtropical regions of South America, Asia and Africa with established Ayurvedic, Chinese and Malay ethnomedical records. The present review reports the isolation, occurrence, phytochemistry, biological properties, therapeutic potential and structure–activity relationship of Euphorbia flavonoids for the period covering 2000–2020, while identifying potential areas for future studies aimed at development of new therapeutic agents from these plants. The findings suggest that the extracts and isolated flavonoids possess anticancer, antiproliferative, antimalarial, antibacterial, anti-venom, anti-inflammatory, anti-hepatitis and antioxidant properties and have different mechanisms of action against cancer cells. The genus Euphorbia (spurges, Euphorbiaceae) is the third largest genus of flowering plants, with almost 2000 species. These species was distributed throughout the world. Uses of the plants to treat diseases vary according to the population. In India, many species of Euphorbia are used in the treatment of asthma and respiratory tract inflammations. Moreover, especially in Angola, some species of spurges are used against diarrhea, skin ailments, gonorrhea, tumours, asthma, coughs, and dysentery. Phytochemistry studies showed that the Euphorbia genus contain mainly, triterpenoids, diterpenoids, flavonoids, tannin and polyphenol. The investigation of biological activity of these compounds sowed different response according to the molecules extract. Many diterpenoids know to have cytotoxicity and anticancer activity. The tripernoids and flavonoids of Euphorbia genus were useful to treat the anti-inflammation and inhibition of virus replication.
Phytochemical and pharmacognostical evaluation of Euphorbiaceae species from Lahore region, Pakistan
Euphorbia prostrata, Euphorbia hirta, Euphorbia splendens, Ricinus communis and Jatropha integearrima (Family: Euphorbiaceae) were selected to explore the phytochemical and pharmacognostical properties. Species of Euphorbiaceae are extensivley used as remedies against several diseases and complaints such as cancer, diabetes, diarrhoea, heart diseases, hemorrhages, hepatitis, jaundice, malaria, ophthalmic diseases, rheumatism and scabies etc. The dried leaves of Euphorbia splendens, Ricinus communis and Jatropha integearrima and dried whole plants of Euphorbia prostrata and Euphorbia hirta extracted with methanol. The Phytochemical screenings was done to identify the presence of carbohydrates, proteins, alkaloids, phytosterol, phenol, flavonoids, tannins, saponins and phlobatannins that is helpful in the confirmation of the authenticity of the plants.

Euphorbiaceae is an important family which contains numerous medicinal plants. Euphorbia cuneata Vahl. (Euphorbiaceae) is a plant used in folk medicine for the treatment of pain and inflammation, although the biological basis for these effects has not been thoroughly investigated. The goal of this study was to investigate the pharmacological properties and characterization of phenolic and flavonoid compounds present in the aerial parts of E. cuneata. E. cuneata aerial parts were tested for antioxidant activity (DPPH), antibacterial activity, cell viability and cytotoxic effects, and anti-inflammatory activity. Phenolic and flavonoid contents (HPLC), and volatile constituents (GC-MS) were also characterized. The methanol extract had the highest antioxidant activity, while the ether extract had the lowest. The antioxidant activity of E. cuneata extract increased from (21.11%) at a concentration of 10 µg/mL to (95.53%) at a concentration of 1280 µg/mL. Investigation of Phytochemical in Euphorbia heterophylla and Euphorbia rothiana
The genus Euphorbia attracted the attention of many researchers as it is poorly studied. Euphorbia heterophyla and Euphorbia rothiana were selected and aimed to investigate the presence of phytochemicals screenings in leaf and stem. Aqueous, Acetone and Methanol Solvents were used for phytochemical analysis. The phytochemical analysis reveals the presence of phenolic compound in leaf and stem of the plants in all extracts and flavonoid using aqueous and methanol extracts. Our findings provides evidence, that aqueous and organic solvent extracts of these plants contain medicinally important bioactive compounds.

This study has been designed to study phenolic and flavonoid contents quantitatively; screen antioxidant activity and investigate unsaponifiable and saponifiable matters of Euphorbia grandialata R. aerial parts. Methods: The phenolics and flavonoids content were assayed by Folin-Ciocalteu reagent and aluminium chloride reagent respectively, while the anti-oxidant activity was done by 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH).GC/MS analysis was used to analyze unsaponifiable and saponifiable matters. Results: Total phenolics result was calculated as (17.61 ± 1.2 μg gallic acid/g), total flavonoids as (4.495 ± 0.39 μg rutin/g) and anti-oxidants activity as (140.6 % μg ascorbic acid/g). The identified compounds in unsaponifiable matter were hydrocarbons (51.1 %), steroids and triterpenes (35.92%). The saponifiable matter showed fourteen components from which six were identified as methyl esters of saturated fatty acids (46.26%) and eight as methyl esters of unsaturated fatty acids (53.74 %). Conclusion: Euphorbia grandialata could be considered as a valuable source of natural antioxidants. This is the first report for phenolics and flavonoids content, antioxidant activity and GC/MS analysis of this plant.

Ethnomedicines are now an important area of better treatment in many countries of the world. Euphorbia hirta Linn. (Family-Euphorbiaceae) an annual medicinal weed and it is commonly known as Asthma plant. It is not only a weed, but also it is a medicinal herb, too. These medicinal herbs are found in tropical and temperate parts of the world along with India, Bangladesh, Africa, and Australia. Extensive literature studies suggested that the various parts of the plant are reported to possess anti-microbial, anti-diabetic, anti-cancer, anti-tumor, anti-plasmodial, anti-fertility, wound healing, anti-inflammatory, sedative, and diuretic properties. The present review study deals with the botanical description, phytochemical, pharmacological, therapeutic, nutritional and other important biological aspects of Euphorbia hirta. The main phytochemicals found in this plant are polyphenols, flavonoids, steroids, tannins, and alkaloids. This review study may be utilized for the identification and preparation of a monograph of Euphorbia hirta.
