The objective of the present article was to make a theoretical revision about the directive vision and the process of strategic decision making, having as base of support the cognitive theory of organization. To do this, and according to the descriptive nature of this study, we used a variety of bibliographical sources of psychology and cognitive theory to examine a set of premises that bind with this line of thought contribute to explain in large measure the impact of cognition in the decision-making process, and consequently the role played by managers to work the vision, create strategies and make key decisions at the highest level of the hierarchy. Among the main findings of the study, we highlight the contribution of cognitive theory as a perspective to address strategic problems based on cognitive abilities, the presence of heuristics as a natural part of decision making, and the need to go deeper into the psychological frame to know about processes, maps and cognitive bias as elements that may exert different influence on the decisions made.
