Teachers practice is permeated by dichotomies that can unbalance their approach, impeding them to develop a practice that is compatible to their intentions. This article discusses the instruction tensions experienced by teachers of English supported by their perspectives and beliefs. This tensions influenced the teacher’s practice in positive and negative ways.
