The effect of strategy implementation on performance of Kenya state corporations

Strategy implementation has been established to influence organizational performance. The main objective of the study was to establish the influence of strategy implementation on performance of Kenyan State corporations. The study's population consisted of 108 Kenyan state corporations and data was collected from 98 organizations. Data was collected using structured questionnaires collated, cleaned, sorted, edited, analyzed and interpreted based on correlation and multivariate regression analysis. It was established that strategy implementation had a statistically significant influence on all the indicators of performance as used in the study. The results anchor in literature the importance of strategy implementation in influencing performance of state corporations. The study has also made its unique contribution to policy formulation and managerial practice in Kenyan state corporations.

Influence Of Strategic Planning On Performance Of State Corporations In Kenya

Despite the fact that State Corporations have been established internationally to support Governments efforts, their performance continue to be a major concern in most countries. Research has shown that strategic planning is one of the tools that organizations can employ to enhance their performance. The need to link strategic planning with performance has become crucial for organizations seeking superior performance. However, there has been no rich literature linking the two. To better understand this relationship, this study was underpinned on resource based view theory and was guided by cross sectional research design. The theoretical models and hypothesis in the study were tested based on data gathered from 102 respondents that were randomly selected from a population of 200 State Corporations in Kenya. The results of correlation indicated that for any improvement in strategic plan, there was a corresponding improvement in the performance composite score and vice versa. Regression analysis results revealed that the predictor variable explained 20% of the variance in dependent variable. From these findings, the study recommended that State Corporations should develop strategic plans and implement them to realize better performance.

The general objective of this study was to analyse the role of performance contracting in strategy implementation in commercial state corporations in Kenya. The study used descriptive research design. The strategy implementation (dependent) variable was measured by Resource allocation and deployment; and the Performance Contracting (Independent) variables include Performance Target Setting, Performance Planning, and Performance Monitoring and Reporting. The study was based on the Resource Based theory and the Goal Setting theory. The target population for this study was the 32 Commercial State Corporations in Kenya as listed in the State Corporations Advisory Committee (SCAC) website (2016). Primary data was collected using structured questionnaires. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics; correlation and regression analysis was computed to determine the degree of association between performance contracting and strategy implementation. The study established that Performance planning have a significant influence on strategy implementation. The study contribute significantly to new knowledge, in policy formulation, effective implementation of the Kenya Vision 2030, effective implementation of strategy using performance contracting, enhanced service delivery by the state corporations, and general performance of State Corporations in fulfillment of their mandates.

Influence of Leadership in Strategy Implementation in State Corporations in Kenya: A Case of Local Authorities Provident Fund (Lapfund)

Strategy implementation has been described as an integral part of strategic management process in organisations in the modern competitive world. This is due to the fact that, it is through strategy implementation that written goals and plans are translated into results that could improve the organization‟s position. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine the influence of leadership in strategy implementation in state corporations in Kenya; a case of local authorities provident fund (LAPFUND). This study utilized descriptive survey design. A sample size of 63 respondents was adopted for the study. Simple random sampling was used since the sampled population had homogenous characteristics. This study used primary data which was collected through use of questionnaires. Data was collected, coded and analyzed using SPSS version 24.0. The findings were presented in form of frequency tables and percentages and discussions and interpretation of the same given. The results indicated that: majority of the respondents as indicated by a computed mean score of 4.1 and a percentage reorientation of 82% agreed that leadership influences strategy implementation in the state corporations significantly. Also, a computed mean score of 4.08 indicated that majority of the respondents agreed that leaders with idealized characteristics influence the implementation of proposed strategies at LAPFUND significantly. Majority of the respondents on the other hand strongly agreed that: Leaders with intellectual stimulation characteristics (indicated by a mean score of 4.2); Leaders with inspiration motivation characteristics (indicated by a mean score of 4.4); Leaders with individualized consideration characteristics (indicated by a mean score of 4.2); and Transformational style of leadership (as indicated by a mean score of 4.2) influence the implementation of the said strategies at LAPFUND significantly. The regressions analysis conducted showed that taking all other independent variables at zero, a unit increase in the leadership would lead to a 0.682 increase in the scores of strategy implementation at LAPFUND. Based on the results, the study recommended that the strategic leaders should be equipped with modern leadership skills that bring every stakeholder on board for better strategies implementation. The Strategic leaders should also understand the organizational culture of their organizations, create an enabling organizational environment and structure, do better strategy communication and mobilize the required resources or strategy implementation effectively and efficiently. The study also recommended that the top managers must be willing to give energy and loyalty to the implementation process of the various strategies in the organization

Corporate Strategy and Performance of Kenyan Companies

The study examines the effect of corporate strategy on organizational performance. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data from 46 companies listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. The study findings reveal that corporate strategy has significant effect on organizational performance. A theoretical and empirical implication of the study illustrate that the stakeholder theory is fully supported. Methodological implication shows that the validity and reliability tests carried out on the data collection instruments confirm that the instrument is sufficient to collect data from respondents. The researchers recommend future research on the individual corporate strategy constructs tested against the raw score of each of the seven performance indicators of Kenya's publicly quoted companies.

This study sought to investigate the factors influencing implementation of strategic plans in state corporations in Kenya. The study adopted a survey research design. All 30 employees at KCDA participated in the study. Structured questionnaires were used to collect primary data. The researcher used both open ended and structured questionnaires. Quantitative data was analyzed with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Science version 23.0 (SPSS). From the study findings, it was concluded that organizational culture, structure, strategic leadership, and financial resources affected implementation of strategic plans in state corporations. Influence of rational strategy implementation Sstyle on Pperformance of commercial state corporations in Kenya

This study sought to examine how the rational strategy implementation style influenced the performance of commercial state corporations in Kenya. This study employed the positivism research philosophy and a descriptive research design. The target population was 1813 staff working in middle-level management (job groups N-Q) in commercial state corporations in Kenya. The multistage sampling method was applied to draw 327 respondents from the target population. Data was collected using semi-structured questionnaires. Using linear regression analysis through the SPSS statistical software, this research study established that the rational strategy implementation style had a positive and significant influence on the performance of commercial state corporations in Kenya. Further, this study found that a control system, clear strategic objectives and following prearranged activities positively and significantly influenced the financial performance of commercial state corporations in Kenya. In addition, a control system and following prearranged activities positively and significantly influenced the customer satisfaction of commercial state corporations in Kenya, but clear strategic objectives had no statistically significant influence on the customer satisfaction of commercial state corporations in Kenya. This study concludes that adoption of the rational strategy implementation style enhances the performance of commercial state corporations in Kenya, and therefore recommends that in order to improve performance, the management of commercial state corporations should ensure that control systems are in place, that strategic objectives are clear, and that the implementation of strategy follows prearranged activities.
