Climate Change, Civil Society, and Social Movement in India (original) (raw)

Climate change poses significant challenges in India, particularly for marginalized communities reliant on natural resources. While government manages climate change activities, civil society organizations (CSOs) play a crucial role in shaping policies through advocacy, research, and grassroots mobilization. The chapter explores the unique Indian context of environmental activism, particularly the 'environmentalism of the poor,' and presents two frameworks for CSOs' climate engagement: 'climate sustainability' and 'climate justice.' It discusses the varying goals of these frameworks, their implications for development, and the importance of international collaboration among CSOs to address climate challenges effectively.
