Current Issues in Tourism
This note focuses on the impact of coronavirus on Italian tourism. Using a sample of 1056 travellers, we find a positive relationship between the security of destination and the probability to accommodate in hotels and B&B. Furthermore, regional contagion is negatively associated to the willingness to pay for accommodation services. The policy implications are twofold. Firstly, hotels/B&B claim for financial support to ensure social distancing and, thus, security that will attract tourists. Secondly, public finance could sustain the demand of tourist services in hotels and B&B which is lowering because of coronavirus.

Annals of Tourism Research Empirical Insights
The COVID-19 outbreak affects hotels by changing demand and supply. We investigate the case of Milan, the outbreak epicentre in Europe, by studying the hotels' reaction before, during, and after the lockdown. We monitor room offers and prices posted on Booking.com in January-September 2020. Findings suggest that: i) the reaction at the beginning of the pandemic was a fall in prices; ii) the number of active hotels dropped with the lockdown, while prices stabilised, a fact that we attribute to fairness considerations; iii) hotels managed uncertainty by increasing the free cancellation options and the risk premium, especially for short-term leads; iv) news and expectations on the pandemic, and the introduction of travel limitations, were essential drivers of managerial decisions.

Proceedings of The 3rd International Conference on Tourism Management and Hospitality
Revenue per Available Room (RevPAR) is a crucial metric for measuring and comparing hotel performance and there are several factors that determine its increase or decrease. The purpose of this study is to identify the determinants of RevPAR and to understand how the COVID-19 (COronaVIrus Disease of 2019) health crisis affected hotel Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as the Average Daily Rate (ADR), the Occupancy rate and the RevPAR in the Iberian Peninsula through a literature review and a comparative analysis. With data collected from STR (Smith Travel Research) and from Our World in Data, this study analyses the RevPAR, the ADR, the Occupancy rate, and the cumulative COVID-19 confirmed cases from Portugal, Spain and the European average. The results show that, despite having similar hotel performances, Portugal is more volatile to seasonality, while Spain has a slightly higher RevPAR average. COVID-19 negatively affected RevPAR and occupancy rates in both countries, reflecting on a brutal impact like no other crisis. Additionally, the study highlights a greater influence of occupancy rate on RevPAR results compared to ADR. The analysis reveals a close relationship among the indicators in the Iberian Peninsula, indicating a growing trend.
