Biometrics based individual identification is observed as an effective technique for automatically knowing, with a high confidence a person's identity. Multi-modal biometric systems consolidate the evidence accessible by multiple biometric sources and normally better recognition performance associate to system based on a single biometric modality.Multi biometric systems are used to overcome this issue by providing multiple pieces of indication of the same identity. This system provides effective fusion structure that combines information provided by the multiple field experts based on decision-level and score-level fusion method, thereby increasing the efficiency which is not conceivable in uni-modal system.Multi-modal biometrics can be attained through a fusion of two or more images, where the subsequent fused image will be more protected. This paper discusses various fusion techniques, architecture of multi-modal biometric authentication and working of biometric fusion i.e. Iris and Fingerprint recognition that are used in multi-modal biometrics.
Analysis of Uni-Modal & Multimodal Biometric System using Iris & Fingerprint

Traditional Biometric Systems that based on a single biometric usually suffer from problems like hacking or imposters' attack, unacceptable error rate & low performance. So, new technology was introduced, a combination of two or more modalities is called Multimodal Biometric System such as Iris & Fingerprint, Speech & Signature, Face & Voice, Face & Fingerprints and Speech, Signature & Handwriting and more. The latest research indicates multimodal person authentication system is more effective and more challenging. The fusion of multiple biometrics helps to minimize the System error rates. In this paper, the performance of unimodal & multimodal biometric system has been compared. In this work, Iris &fIngerprint modalities been used and performance analysis is on the basis of FAR, FRR & accuracy.

We decided to build a scalable, small, and efficient device that can be used to secure doorways throughout complex. In actual there are many biometric measurements systems that can be used, depending upon the application. Finger print identification is popular biometric technique due to easiness in acquiring, availability and their established use. Whereas the Iris recognition biometric system is complex but having very high accuracy. In our proposed system we decided to use the fusion of these two modalities to provide more reliable, highly secured access to opening closing control system . A STUDY OF MULTIMODAL BIOMETRIC SYSTEM
Biometrics is a technique by which an individual's identity can be authenticated by applying the physical or behavioral trait. Physical traits, like fingerprints, face, iris etc. are based on physical characteristics which are generally inherent and stable. Behavioral traits, like voice, signature or keystroke dynamics etc. on the other hand, is a quantifiable characteristic. That is obtained over time and is subject to deliberate alteration. Unimodal biometric systems developed for each of these biometric features may not always meets the required performance. The methods are analyzed to integrate the various features together to acquire a multi-modal biometric system. The recent research reveals that multi-modal biometric system is more effective in authentication. The objective of this paper is to highlight the importance of the use of multimodal biometrics in the area of secure person authentication. This study provides a different perception to use biometrics as a highest level of network security with the fusion of multiple biometric modalities.

An Investigation towards Effectiveness of Present State of Biometric-Based Authentication System
The adoption of biometric-based authentication mechanism has been already initiated a decade back but still in real-life we get to see usage of only unimodal biometrics. Out of all the different forms of biometrics, we see usage of fingerprint as the dominant attribute in contrast to different other attributes e.g. teeth image, palm, facial geometry, retina network, iris, etc. Multimodal biometrics is believed to offered better security compared to unimodal. Although, there are some of the technical advancement in evolving up with new multimodal methodologies, but still commercial usage of such is yet to be seen. Therefore, this manuscripts aims to explore the level of effectiveness in existing approaches of biometric-based authentication system in order to further investigate the unaddressed solution towards this problem. This paper reviews the approaches used for addressing different problems associated with biometrics and discusses about their technical methodologies as well as their limitations.

The term biometric comes from the Greek words bios (life) and metrikos (measure).Humans have used body characteristics such as face, voice, gait, etc. for thousands of years to recognize each other. With the proliferation of computers networks in our day to day life, the increased number of applications making use of such networks leads to a problem of identity theft [7] .A wide variety of systems requires reliable personal recognition schemes to either confirm or determine the identity of an individual. Biometric technology is more convenient and efficient than any other protection technologies used for identity authentication. Biometric technology plays a key role in recognizing humans based on their body Characteristics .The purpose of such schemes is to make sure that the rendered services are accessed only by a legitimate user, and not by anyone else. Hence Biometrics plays a vital role in securing one’s privacy using various Biometrics techniques through which fraudulence can be avoided. Biometric technology is considered one of the best protection methods of user information and data[8].
An Efficient Learning Using Iris and Fingerprint Multi-Modal Biometirc Authentication System
Biometrics deals with the technical field for body dimensions and controls. It states various metrics related to characteristics of the human. Biometrics verification is used in processors as a method of access control. It deals with the identification of the individuals in clusters that are under investigation. Biometric are the unique, measurable features used to tag and describe entities. Biometric are often considered as physical versus behavioral features. Physical features are related to the form of the physique. Examples comprises of fingerprint, veins, recognition of face, palm pattern, hand, iris acknowledgement. Behavioral features are related to the shape of a person which are not limited to gait, and voice. Various researchers have invented the term performance metrics to define the latter discussion of biometrics. So this paper deals with the biometric fusion of iris and fingerprint which provides more security for the authentication of authentic individual and the performance will be evaluated in terms of false acceptance rate, false rejection rate and accuracy of the system.
Development and Implementation of a Biometric Security Lock System new

In these days of rapid industrial growth the population statistic has it that crime and social vice are steadily on the increase and it is really regretful. This paper considers and centres on the development and implementation of a biometric security lock system. The lock system is controlled by the computer equipped with a finger print reader. The computer controls the door by accessing the fingerprint of the user if it was formerly registered into its database. The system on start-up registers all necessary fingerprints and then locks up controls and thereafter accesses them for identification and opens the door whenever the fingerprint entered by the user is on the database of registered users. The system consists of the fingerprint reader to access the user fingerprint connected to the computer. The computer has a program written with visual basic 6.0 software for accessing the reader and controlling the door. The computer is connected to the control circuit board consisting of the microcontroller and transistor-relay switches for controlling power to the motor actuator to move the door open and close whenever the fingerprint reader reads a registered print. The door mechanism is controlled by the microcontroller when the controller receives access signal from the PC. When the system detects a registered fingerprint it would send signal to the hardware controller to open the door and if it is not a registered user it would not grant access. The system on completion of design, construction and tests carried out show the system worked satisfactorily as fingerprint could be registered and the system could identify registered prints and open the door and display "WELCOME" to the identified user.
