A systematic approach to the solution of the design optimization problem (original) (raw)

Total Quality Management & Business Excellence, 1998

Abstract

Design optimization problem is a cost-effective method for improving product/process quality that is determined by an optimal set of values for controllable variables, from the point of view of its robustness against various uncontrollable variables. Designing high-quality products/ processes at low cost leads to increased market share and continuous customer loyalty. An efficient way to achieve this is to use Taguchi methods. Although they have a wide application range, Taguchi methods are applied mainly in engineering. In order to apply Taguchi methods to the solution of the problems in various areas, a systematic approach is needed. This paper proposes and discusses the necessary steps for the application of Taguchi methods to the design optimization problem.
