Analysis of the Contribution of Masonry Infill in the Overall Stiffness of Concrete Frames (original) (raw)
Concrete frame with masonry infill has been the subject of many studies, both experimental as numerical, to assess the contribution of the masonry in the structural behaviour of buildings. Several authors have presented formulations based on experimental studies for the consideration of masonry infill through an equivalent diagonal as in the theory of strut and tie. The comparison of values obtained with the different expressions they propose, shows that there is not a consensus over the right value to adopt what reinforces the need to deepen the subject. A parametric study involving the ratio of panel dimensions, the ratio of beam and column stiffness of the frame shows that there is a range of values of the strut that coincides with the recommendation of some international standards. This paper presents a simulation of the behaviour of a multi-story concrete frame via the finite element method, using a homogenization technique to define the elastic characteristics of masonry.
