The Status of Rituals among the Audiences of the Iranian Islamic Reformists
The religious intellectualism is one of the active intellectual current in the Iran which has been criticized in different ways. One of the critical aspects is how to deal with rituals and religious' practices. Most of these criticisms are general and theoretical without regard to the audiences. The issue of this research is the ritual of audiences and their understandings' and perceptions'. This research was performed with qualitative methods and techniques of observation, interview, study the speech of religious intellectuals and finally analysis of all data content. Husseiniye Ershad, one of the most important religious intellectual bases, had been chosen and the intellectuals who were active there in 2000-2010 and their audiences' had been studied. The results show religious intellectuals have imprecise stance about ritual which can be because of response to the current formalism in country, limitation in accumulation and use of media, and not having clear pattern. The most important internal reason is not having clear pattern about ritual, and it can be explained with some arguments; first, criticism of formalism and originality of the content of religion and therefore trivialized form of religion, second, individualism and importance of individual choosing and directly relationship with God, and finally, rationalism which has created utilitarianism, goal oriented and original oriented.

The social function of Islamic rituals-an ethnographic study Executive summary This ethnographic study aims to explore and analyze the social function of Islamic rituals in society. The objectives and research methodology were identified, and previous studies related to the subject were reviewed. Data were collected using the ethnographic method, with an emphasis on direct participation and field observation. The data was analyzed and results were drawn that showed the impact of Islamic rituals on social communication, belonging and cultural identity. The importance of Islamic rituals in promoting social values and morals, the communication of generations, and the promotion of cultural heritage was clarified. The recommendations of the study include continuing research in this field, expanding the scope of ethnographic studies, and analyzing the impact of cultural and social changes on Islamic rituals. It is shown that Islamic rituals play a vital role in promoting communication, belonging, and cultural identity in Muslim societies.

The Role of Congregational Rituals in Islamic Pattern of Life
From the time religious beliefs sprang into existence, attending congregational religious rituals was one the main ways to express devotion to gods and to demonstrate the power and preserve unity of the adherents. This kind of social behavior was not only important to the founders but also to the followers of religions. Gradually, this religious phenomenon became one of the inseparable parts of people's lives and one of the easiest ways for maintaining the ties of relationship. For Muslims, communal religious rituals play prominent roles in preparing the ground for socio-religious felicity and for strengthening ties of devotion to God. In this article, an attempt has been made to offer a brief historical survey of Islamic congregational rituals and to discover the most important elements, roles and Impacts of this socio-religious behavior in developing social values in Muslim communities.
The nature and function of ritual forms: A sociological discussion

This article sets forth a general sociological theory about the nature and-&dquo; function of ritual forms, differentiates among various kinds of rituals in relation to their manifest ritual objectives and latent social functions, and analyzes the contemporary shifts in ritual practices from the perspective of these conceptual assumptions.' 1 1 Phenomenological and functional characteristics of ritual forms Sociologists have often commented disparagingly on ritual activities. Like Merton they have tended to view rituals as meaningless routines, as unthinking habituated activities, or as the overly elaborated ceremonies accompanying certain kinds of political or religious practices. Protestant religious thinkers too have often viewed rituals critically because they sensed that a preoccupation with rites and liturgies detracted attention away either from real, inner religious experiences or from responsible moral action.2 These criticisms arise in part because of a failure to distinguish between rituals as cultural codes and certain stylized and habituated forms of behaviour, which may be acted out in keeping with these codes, and, in part, because of religious and moral critiques of particular rituals or ritualisms rather than ritual action as such.
