Cooperatives have brought significant contributions to uplift the lives of many individuals and to resolve problems related to financial, marketing and production. This study was conducted to determine whether the different registered cooperatives in Gapan City, Nueva Ecija were attaining their objectives and whether the board of directors and officers were performing their duties and responsibilities by fulfilling their management functions. Furthermore, this study was conducted to determine the different constraints the cooperatives were facing that could affect their everyday operations. The researcher utilized the descriptive research design using a survey– questionnaire technique to gather the necessary information. Moreover, the researcher with the use of T–test determined whether there is a significant difference in the extent of attainment of the cooperative objectives, level of performance of the officers in performing their management functions and the constraints affecting the operations of the organizations based on the perceptions of the officials and the members of cooperatives. Findings have shown that the existing registered cooperatives in the city were able to attain their cooperative objectives to a very great extent. It has also been found out that the board of directors and officers were able to perform their management functions very satisfactory. On the other hand, the respondents perceived that the constraints affecting the operations of cooperatives were just minor problems. The two groups differ in their responses on the extent of attainment of their cooperative objectives and on the constraints affecting the operations of the cooperatives while both groups of respondents have the same perception as to the level of performance of the board of directors and officers in performing their management functions.

Cooperative societies have been present in Kenya for decades but this sector has not been able to impact positively on the lives of people. Access to finance has been cited as one of the factors hampering economic growth and poverty alleviations. Cooperative societies have lagged behind other financial institutions by performing below the members' expectations therefore causing dissatisfaction among the members. The study sought to find out the effect of financial factors on performance of cooperative societies. The objectives that guided the study were credit policy, investment policy and dividend policy. The population of interest was drawn from the cooperative societies registered with the ministry of cooperatives in Juja Sub-county, Kiambu. They were all thirty by number where a sample size of 14 cooperatives was selected. The study employed the descriptive research design. Secondary data was obtained from the ministry of cooperatives Juja sub-county. Data was analyzed using a regression model with the aid of SPSS and presented on tables and figures .The dividend policy was found to have a positive influence on Return on Asset and Return On Equity. Investment decision also had a positive influence on ROA and ROE. Loan policy measured by the non-performing loans had a negative influence on both Return on Asset and Return On Equity .The study concludes that since all the variables were loaded into one factor for each of the variables, this was a good indication that the constructs used in the measurement of all the variables were adequate and they measured the financial performance .The study recommends that managers should be keen on their dividend policy in their firms. The management should also consider diversifying their investment portifolios so as to earn more income. Managers to strictly follow loan policy to make follow up on defaulted loans so as to improve on performance. The study suggests further studies on effect of internal political influence on performance of cooperatives societies and the effect of non financial factor on performance of cooperatives societies.
Scholars in management and strategy found that the participation of members correlated with business performance. However, the business performance of cooperatives in Malaysia does not clearly show this trend. As such, this study aims to examine the level of members " participation and its correlation with the cooperatives " business performance. The members " participation constructs were decision making, share capital and the usage of products and services measured through multi-dimensional analysis, despite current literature that focuses on unidimensional construct. Data was collected using the survey of 148 members of Koperasi PTSS Berhad. By using descriptive analysis, the result shows that usage of products and service was the highest level of members " participation, followed by share capital and decision-making. While correlation analysis found that all three variables had a significant positive relationship with the cooperatives " business performance. These findings are useful as they contribute to a better understanding of the members " participation constructs as well as relationship strategies to link with the cooperatives " business performance. Several suggestions have been made for future research.
