Level of Motivational Factors of Athletes in Relation to Their Sports Participation

Purpose: This study aimed to measure the level of motivational factors of athletes in relation to their sports participation. The study reveals the highest and lowest motivational factors among athletes and the team that are perceived as most and least motivated. Methods and Materials: The study is quantitative in nature. A purposive sampling technique was chosen to get the sample from the population. The research sample consists of student-athletes from Far Eastern University. These student-athletes are enrolled in the academic year 2022-2023. The research is limited to seven (7) participating sports such as Athletics, Basketball, Cheering Squad, Dance Troupe, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, and Table Tennis. Quantification the motivation level of the athletes

To obtain sports performance, motivation plays a crucial role, especially in the psychological preparation of athletes. The effectiveness of sports activity decreases when there is a minimum level of motivation or an over-motivation and increase if there is an optimal level of motivation. The purpose of this paper is to quantify the level of motivation of the athletes, especially those who practice sports games. In order to fulfill objectives, we used questionnaire based survey method, using for this purpose Motivation in Sport Scale (SMS-28) developed by Pelletier et al., 1995. This allows us to investigate the motivation of athletes and the type motivation - intrinsic motivation (three subscales), extrinsic motivation (three subscales) and amotivation level of each athlete. Conclusions and recommendations are stated as determining the level of athlete motivational drive generates motivational strategies for optimizing and maximizing sports performance psychological preparation. Background: Successful athletes are motivated for future-oriented for more achievements. Apprehensive athletes are not as successful as highly motivated athletes. There are many reasons why individuals are motivated to participate in sports. For athletes to participate in and keep up exercise, investigating the participation motivation of athletes is necessary. The aim of this study was to compare sport participation motivation of athletes in team and individual disciplines. The sample consisted of 265 athletes including four teams from football, volleyball, basketball, and handball and two individual disciplines of kung fu and taekwondo which were randomly selected. Types of Sport Motivation on Malaysian Athletes

Motivation determines many aspects of behavior including motives of taking part in physical activities, in order to maintain physical and mental health. The aim of this study is to differentiate the types of motivation between gender. Sports Motivation Scale (SMS-28), which consist of intrinsic, extrinsic and amotivation, was used in this study. The sample of this study consists of 300 athletes of Malaysia. The result revealed the highest mean of sports motivation is extrinsic (4.86), followed by intrinsic (4.64) and amotivation (4.13). Besides that, there is no significant differences exist between gender on extrinsic, intrinsic and amotivation. This result strongly supported by a few previous study that there isn't any significant difference in the types of sports motivation between gender when involved in physical activities. Sport psychologist or coaches' can use this study to provide adequate and variety of sports programmes to maintain interest among participants based on their motives.

Motivational Factors That Play a Role in the Engagement of Athletes in the Field of Athletics

This aim of study is to identify the motivational factors that play a role in the athletic engagement of athletes who are based in the region of Southeastern Anatolia. The population consisted of individuals engaged in athletics in Turkey's Southeastern Anatolia Region. The study's sample consisted of 234 participants who were chosen randomly. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used to check compliance with the normal distribution. The T-Test was conducted to compare the two independent groups of variables with the normal distribution, and the ANOVA and Tukey multiple comparison tests were conducted for the comparison of more than two independent groups of variables with the normal distribution. The frequency, percentage, average, and standard deviation values are provided as descriptive statistics. SPSS 22.0 software package was used for statistical analyses. As a result of the study, it was determined that the most influential factors encouraging individuals to pursue a career in the field of athletics were trainers, physical education teachers, friends and sports programs on TV. Their expectations from athletics were that it would allow them to be healthy, become a national athlete, and make money out of sports through their physical appearance. Their reasons for choosing the field of athletics were to gain success, become successful and healthy, make use of spare time, and a belief in the positive impact of athletics. The purpose of the present study was to determine the differences and level of achievement motivation in national basketball and hockey players and Asian (International) badminton and table tennis players. The total number of players who participated in present investigation was 84(21 Badminton, 21 Table Tennis, 21 basketball and 21hockey players).One way analysis of variance and Least Significant Difference Post-hoc test was used to analyze the data, the level of significance for the study was chosen as 0.05. The results of the study revealed that National basketballers had higher and Asian table tennis players had lower level of achievement motivation amongst the group. Further as per the norms of the Questionnaire National Basketball, Hockey and International Badminton players had high level of achievement motivation and Asian table tennis players had moderate level of achievement motivation.

Participation and Motivation in Sports Among individual and Team Athletes

The main aim of this study is to examine the differences in participation and motivation in sport activities among male and female athletes in Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka. A group of 106 athletes (male: 75 and female 31) were selected from several sports (lawn bowl, basketball, rugby, handball, hockey, volleyball, taekwondo, karate do and pencak silat) through purposive sampling technique. Their age ranged from 18 to 21 years. Data were collected from athletes using Revised Participation Motivation Questionnaire [1]. The results revealed that the latent structure of the types of sports students' motives consisted of six factors (skill development, social, fitness, fun, energy release and popularity). Independent sample t-test was used to test the level of motivation between male and female athlete. Finding revealed that there was no significant difference between male and female athletes in all the components except for popularity.
