Zitteliana Reihe B: Abhandlungen der Bayerischen Staatssammlung fur Palaontologie und Geologie
In this paper the plateosaur remains (about 1000 bones) found 1962 in Ellingen (Bavaria, S-Germany; Upper Triassic) are described. Connected questions of the taphonomy and preservation, age of deposits, the general morphology, taxonomy, and evolution in comparison to other localities and other prosauropods are discussed in detail. Regarding taxonomy the type material of Plateosaurus engelhardti MEYER, 1837 is redescribed and diagnosed. The affinities of referred material (and species) of Plateosaurus engelhardti or other species are resolved and the variability of Plateosaurus engelhardti is discussed. The taphonomical and preservational differences between the various plateosaur localities and the taxonomical consequences are explained by effects of palaeopedogenesis (compaction, concretionary carbonate growth, clay welling). The detailed inspection of the fossils lead to a modified restoration of Plateosaurus from Ellingen. Finally various minor finds of prosauropods from Bavaria ...
