Abstract

The central topic of the article is of how, from middle of the 19th century, the historiography has tried to explain, as for linguistic and ethnic belonging to the indigenous Andean companies, with special emphasis in Miguel Acosta Saignes contributions, who from middle of the 20th century, proposed a new vision to understand, under the category of cultural areas, the set of indigenous Venezuelan populations. It is a question of a subject matter approached by linguists, historians and anthropologists, but without consensus between those who have been the most spread offers.
