Contribution to the flora of the Rhodopes and the Thracian plain

Contribution to the flora of the Rhodopes and the Thracian plain. -Historia naturalis bulgarica, 17: 27-33. Abstract. New chorological data for 21 species are reported. New for the Rhodopes floristic region are 7 taxa, while there are 4 new ones for the Eastern Rhodopes subregion. New for the Thracian plain floristic region are 3 species, other 2 species are confirmed for this region. Two of them, Mediterranean ones (Silene lydia Boiss. and Logfia gallica (L.) Coss. et Germ.), are rare for Bulgaria. Altogether, data on 8 rare or protected species are given.

Abstract. New chorological data are reported about 16 taxa from floristic regions of Sofia (3 new species), Mt Vi-tosha (6 species), Rila Mts (7 species new or confirmed), and Mt Sredna Gora (Western – 3 species). The distribution of Thesium linophyllon, a rare species for Bulgaria entered in the Red Data Book of the PR Bulgaria, has been confirmed for the Mt Vitosha region (Mt Plana), two populations of which were found.

Abstract. New chorological data about 24 taxa are reported in the present work. Nine species are new for the floristic region of the Black Sea Coast, two for the Northeast Bulgaria, four for the Balkan Range (Eastern) – three of them collected in the area of Sliven divide, one for the Toundzha Hilly Country and three for Mt Strandzha. One more species is confirmed for the Balkan Range. Data are also supplied on the new localities of some rare plants, including a second locality for Cytinus clusii in the country. A floristic catalogue of serpentine areas in the eastern Rhodope mountains (Bulgaria)

The serpentine flora of the Bulgarian part of the eastern Rhodope Mts. was studied in 1995–2001; 439 taxa of higher plants from 59 families and 210 genera were established, with 24 Bulgarian and Balkan endemics. Information on the distribution of the plants along six itineraries and brief ecological notes on some taxa are included. The taxonomic structure of the serpentine flora of the eastern Rhodope Mts is compared to the serpentine flora of Mt. Vourinos (northern Greece). Plant speciation in Bulgaria is relatively young, and no specific floristic complex has yet developed.

New species for the Bulgarian flora

Phytolacca esculenta, Celtis tournefortii, Parthenocissus inserta, and Prunus serotina are reported for the first time from Bulgaria, while the occurrence of Salix viminalis in the country has been definitively confirmed. The first record on invasive spreading of P. serotina in Bulgaria is presented.
